Maybe even commercials that tug on our heartstrings? You’re healthy. The journal Psychological Science says people who cry in social situations are actually better at managing their emotions! That’s because crying when you’re touched by something – or even when you’re overwhelmed by happiness – is a way of processing and coping with your emotions. And when we let ourselves get emotional, we get back in control of our feelings faster.

Former flight attendant Erika Roth says, if you don’t want to wait for the lavatory, take advantage of two golden windows of opportunity: 1. As soon as the pilot turns off the seatbelt sign… And 2. Just before drink service begins. Roth says, during those times, passengers can realistically expect about 10 minutes of peace inside the restroom to take care of any pressing issues.

It could mean you’re stressed and working too hard!

Researchers at the UK’s University of Nottingham found when people were concentrating really hard on a task, their noses got colder – dropping almost 2 degrees temperature-wise! The scientists say, when we’re feeling overwhelmed by intense cognitive activity, more blood gets diverted to the brain… and less goes to the nose. Because it takes extra energy to pump blood there. So, if the tip of your nose starts to feel chilly, it may be time to take a quick break at work.

It’s an acronym for Artificial Light At Night. And avoid it! Functional medicine expert Dr. Sara Gottfried says, for every hour we stare at a screen before bed, the sleep hormone melatonin is suppressed for 30 minutes. And surveys show 95% of us regularly use an electronic device before bed. But suppressing melatonin disrupts sleep, impairs immune function, and increases the risk of cancer and metabolic syndrome. So what should you do instead of watching a screen? Dr. Gottfried suggests reading a book, specifically fiction, which has shown to calm the nervous system before bed.

Here’s some advice from the book, “The Silent Language Of Leaders: How Body Language Can Help or Hurt” by Dr. Carol Goman: Don’t judge a person’s body language based on one move. For example, you may have heard that people who are lying touch their nose because the stress of lying triggers histamine, which makes the nose itch. But that one move isn’t proof that someone’s lying. Instead, we should look for a cluster of behaviors. Like, they touch their nose, AND they’re sweating profusely, AND they avoid direct questions. When you combine all those, the person is probably lying.

This comes from the journal Obesity. Studies show, people who stepped on a scale once a week GAINED 2.4 pounds in a year. Those who weighed themselves every day LOST 1.1 pounds in that same year – without changing any of their habits. It works because you can address any weight changes before they snowball. So put your scale right by your shower. That way you can step on it right before you get in – and you won’t forget to weigh yourself every day.

Yes! Microbiologist Dr. Charles Gerba says dogs and humans carry different kinds of bacteria, and what’s in a dog’s mouth can cause gum disease in yours, or salmonella poisoning! So keep dog slobber away from your mouth. Besides, dogs don’t have the enzymes to process dairy – so ice cream will give Rover the runs.

Here’s how to get rid of it ASAP, according to lung specialist Dr. Neil Schachter:

First, take a HOT shower when you wake up. Lying down causes virus-laden mucus to drain to the back of your nose and throat, making it harder to breathe. But hot, steamy air loosens mucus, helping you clear it OUT by coughing or blowing your nose.

Next, the more water you drink, the faster your body can flush out viruses.

And even a 5-minute walk slightly raises our core temperature, like when we have a fever, which can literally bake our cold germs away.

To boost your brainpower, and slow age-related mental decline, spend 2 hours a week texting friends and learning new things. Mayo Clinic research found staying socially active and discovering new information can reduce mental slowdown by 42%. Because it strengthens the area of the brain linked to long-term memory storage. It’s the same benefit you get from reading for a-half hour a day. The more you challenge your gray matter, the slower it’ll age. And it doesn’t matter if your brain gets a workout online or in real life.

Because scrolling through all the pictures of your fabulous life can make you feel great! But, communications Science professor Dr. Catalina Toma says, there’s a downside. She says reliving all those fun times can make you feel like you don’t need to improve yourself, because your life is so wonderful, and you’ll be less likely to hit the gym. So hold off on browsing through your online life until after your workout.
