ImageYou know those copper pots hanging above the island in your kitchen? Stop using them for decoration and start cooking with them – to reduce food poisoning. New research from the University of Arizona found that when copper is heated, the oxidation process kills food poisoning bacteria – like E. coli and salmonella.

ImageAccording to Clemson University researchers, you’re more likely to be sickened by salsa than by other dips! When they tested different types of dips that had been contaminated by double-dippers, they found that the salsa had 7 times more microbes than the others. Why? According to the study, the runny consistency of the salsa makes it easier for germs to migrate from the half-eaten chip into the bowl of salsa.

Purdue scientists found that negative thinking triggers your stress hormones. And when stress hormones are elevated for a long period of time, it weakens your immune system and body functions. The good news is, the people in the Purdue study who found good ways to cope with their worries lived longer.

One strategy to eliminate anxiety: become a volunteer. According to the journal Psychosomatic Medicine, selfless actions distract you from stress.

If you want the lightning-fast reflexes of a World Cup soccer goalie, eat more spinach and eggs. That’s because the amino acid tyrosine in those foods increases production of the hormone norepinephrine and the neurotransmitter dopamine. Together, those brain chemicals increase energy levels, and improve reaction times and focus.

I sure love my music, but, I will never borrow a friends headphones or earbuds! Earphones are crawling with germs that can lead to ear infections.

People who regularly have earbuds in for at least 30 minutes at a time have 12% more bacteria in their ears than those who listen less often. My advice? Regularly clean your earbuds with alcohol wipes.

ImageI love nectarines and peaches. But, a pretty peach can contain tons of pesticides. According to the USDA, peach skins are doused with as many as nine different pesticides to prevent blemishes. That’s why peaches are a good food to buy organic. Otherwise, wash them thoroughly before biting in.
