Go ahead and sleep through your alarm and skip your morning workout. You’ll get a better workout in the evening, after work, anyway. According to research from the University of North Texas, you’ll go faster – and last 20% longer – if you exercise between 5pm and 7pm. That’s because, as the day wears on, our circadian rhythms gradually raise our hormone levels, our body temperature, and our V-O-2-Max – which is also known as our aerobic capacity. As a result – cardio workouts feel easier in the evening.

…skip the high heels! Travel expert Christopher Elliot says, if you have to evacuate the plane, you’ll have to take your stilettos OFF to avoid puncturing the inflatable slide. And if you’re evacuating onto the tarmac, it can be burning hot if you’re not wearing shoes. So skip the heels when you fly.

Exercise regularly! Researchers from Saint Louis University found working long hours, and spending more time away from the family hurts our home life. But people who exercised regularly were less stressed at work, even if they were having personal problems. So, they got more done and were more likely to leave on time, which reduced the friction at home. Plus, exercise boosted their mood and confidence, making them better able to forget about work after hours. Making it easier for them to relax, unwind, and enjoy their family.

…may be a busy schedule of work, exercise, friends, hobbies, and volunteering.

University of Texas researchers studied over 300 people over age 50. And those with the busiest schedules and social lives had better memories, sharper reasoning, faster problem-solving, and a greater vocabulary at every age. Because keeping busy regularly exposes us to new situations and people, and helps us learn new things. All of which have been shown to improve brain function, and help stave off age-related memory decline.

Sometimes, it’s hard to get going when you’re doing cardio – like running or Spinning. But just give it 4 minutes. That’s about how long it takes for our cardio-respiratory system to get going – which helps us use oxygen more efficiently. Once that kicks in, you won’t be panting and gasping for air, and exercise will feel easier.

Risky behavior can be “contagious,” according to Cal Tech. In other words, when parents ask, “If your friends jumped off of a cliff, would you do it, too?” Most kids would say, “Yes!” The researchers found that after observing others who do something risky, people are more likely to take risks of their own. So, if you want your kids to play it safer, encourage them to hang out with less of a risk-taking crowd.

Some common things can make your symptoms worse, according to immunologist Dr. Clifford Bassett.

For example: Hair gel. It’s sticky and collects pollen throughout the day, which can end up spread all over your pillow and face at night.

And if you have a pollen allergy, avoid eating celery. There’s a protein in celery that’s very similar to pollen. It can confuse your immune system, making symptoms worse. And that goes for cooked celery too, so avoid it in soups.

What you wear on your next plane trip could be critical for keeping you and your fellow passengers comfortable and healthy.

For example, skip the heavy cologne and perfume. Travel expert Christopher Elliott says because of the re‑circulated air, your scent could permeate the entire aircraft, and overwhelm or even sicken your fellow passengers – especially young children and those with allergies.

Also: Don’t wear skinny jeans. They can constrict circulation and raise the chance of developing blood clots in your legs.

A cucumber! That’s according to neurologist Dr. Alan Hirsch from the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation. In his studies, the scent of cucumber was so effective at relieving anxiety that it even helped people suffering from claustrophobia! In fact, when people with claustrophobia were put in a small elevator with the scent of cucumber, 75% felt calmer. Dr. Hirsch says the scent changes a person’s perception of space – making places feel more expansive. And it works so well, some hospitals use cucumber oil to calm patients before MRI scans! For the best results with a fresh cucumber – slice it before taking a whiff. That’ll release more odor molecules.
