It’s a trend our researchers spotted, with many fitness centers offering a class called “Napercize” – where you work out for a while, then go down for a nap with a bunch of strangers. The temperature is taken down to 67 or 68 degrees, which is ideal for sleeping, and each person gets a little cot, a blanket, and an eye mask.

The class is designed to help boost your mental and physical wellbeing and reinvigorate the mind and body.

While it may seem ridiculous to some people, taking naps has remarkable benefits for our mental health, which is backed by research from Pennsylvania’s Allegheny College. And think about it: Nap-time has been working for years in kindergartens all over the planet. So, maybe it’s time for us adults to give Napercize a try.

Here’s why you may be a mosquito magnet, according to Dr. Jonathan Day, professor of medical entomology at the University of Florida:

First: Mosquitoes are highly attracted to carbon dioxide, which they can sense from up to 60 feet away. And every time we exhale, we release carbon dioxide… but some of us release a lot more. So, try talking less, to reduce your C‑O‑2 footprint.

Mosquitoes are also attracted to lactic acid – a compound that builds up in our muscles after a tough workout. So, try not to exercise before an outdoor barbecue.

Finally: Be careful what you wear. If you have on dark colors during the day or bright colors at night, you’ll stand out, and become more of a mosquito magnet.

That’s new research from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. They found that eating foods high in iron, like red meat, increase appetite. Because iron suppresses production of leptin, the “I’m full” hormone. Leptin also slows our metabolism. And know this: Iron is the one mineral that our body can’t eliminate naturally. So, the more iron you ingest, the lower your leptin levels, and the more likely you are to overeat. So if you’re mysteriously gaining weight, try cutting back on red meat.

…make yourself a cup of spearmint tea. The American Academy of Dermatology found consuming 2 cups a day reduced acne in patients by 25% in one month. And if they kept it up for 3 months – their acne was cut in half! That’s as effective as prescription medication but with zero side effects.
So what’s the magic in spearmint tea? It calms the skin – and has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties. And spearmint is more effective than other types of mint… and kills the bacteria and yeast that cause skin problems.

Losing weight could be as simple as making a grocery list and sticking with it. That’s according to a RAND Corporation study – which found that about a third of shoppers always use a grocery list. Another third sometimes do, and the rest NEVER take a list to the store. The result: Those who planned their meals in advance and shopped from a list weighed 5 pounds less, on average… that’s compared to those who bought whatever struck their fancy. The researchers believe planning what you’re going to buy before going to the store helps you stay focused on what you came for……And better able to resist high-calorie and high-fat food and treats.

Does yoga count as moderate exercise?

You know you should get a 30-minute dose of moderate exercise, 5 days a week. So does your yoga class count? Maybe not. Moderate exercise means getting your heart pumping about 130 beats per minute – or walking to the beat of the song “YMCA.” And most yoga classes fall short of that heart-rate goal. However, you don’t have to stick your yoga mat in the closet just yet. It has major benefits as far as improving balance and strength and reducing stress. And if you want it to count as moderate exercise, you need to move through poses faster and focus on ones that engage your core. If you want to see what that looks like, Google Cardio Yoga and you’ll see examples. Otherwise, keep doing yoga for the other health perks, but add in moderate heart-pumping exercise 5 days a week.

Backyard trampolines and trampoline parks can be dangerous!

You know those trampoline parks that are opening all over the place, with wall-to-wall trampolines? Approximately 6 new ones open each month! But they’re a hotbed of injuries! That’s according to data from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Last year alone, nearly 7-thousand kids wound up in the emergency room due to trampoline parks. And in the last 5 years – since trampoline parks started becoming a “thing” – the injury rate has risen 12-fold! Now, backyard trampolines are still the biggest risk… with over 90-thousand injuries in a single year and 92% of those injuries are among kids, age 16 and younger. That’s why ER physician Dr. Katherine Van Zandt says parents need to be more aware. She says, most parents have no idea how often trampoline injuries occur – and how severe they are. Trauma expert Dr. Craig Cook says trampoline injuries are often similar to what you’d see in a high-speed car crash. And 75% of injuries occur when at least two people are jumping on the same trampoline.

Also, if there’s a size difference – like an adult and a child – the smaller person is 14 times more likely to be significantly hurt than the larger one. Something to consider before you put a trampoline in your backyard or send your kid to another birthday party at a trampoline park.

Sunscreen: Apply and reapply often!

Let’s say you never lie out in the sun… unless you’re on vacation. And then, for that week, you burn yourself to a crisp. That intense, intermittent sun exposure is WORSE than getting daily doses of sun. It increases the risk of melanoma more than regular exposure – like getting 15 minutes every day on your afternoon walk. That daily exposure isn’t without its own risks – but it increases a less-deadly form of skin cancer: Basal cell carcinoma. Which usually comes from cumulative sun damage. But those annual bake-a-thons at the beach are more deadly. Because that intense blast of sun overwhelms your system, weakening your skin’s defenses against melanoma. The Stanford Cancer Institute calls it “an extreme assault to our DNA.” It’s like smoking a carton of cigarettes all at once, instead of a pack a day. They’re both bad – but the carton will get you sick a lot faster. So on your daily walk – or your once-a-year beach vacation – make sure you wear SPF and reapply often.

If you’re feeling sluggish and dehydrated, try these top “recovery” foods to help get your energy back. They come from registered dietician Deborah Tagliareni:

First: Eat watermelon. It’s got “water” right in the name. Plus, it’s full of lycopene, an antioxidant also found in tomatoes. But watermelon has 4 times as much lycopene as tomatoes. So it’s a powerhouse when it comes to preventing and repairing free-radical damage.

Also, eat some cucumbers. Next, to lettuce, they have the highest water content of ANY vegetables! Plus, cucumbers have key B vitamins that support your metabolism by converting carbohydrates into energy.

It’s not surprising. According to Dr. Seth Marquit, the medical director at the Pritikin Longevity Center, any time you make a major dietary change – even if it’s healthy – it can throw off your system, and one side effect is headaches. Like if you cut out chocolate – or caffeine… both of which HELP head pain. The good news is, the headaches will be a short-term problem and should disappear once your body adjusts to the new eating plan. But in the meantime, here are a few natural ways to get rid of them.

First: Drink a glass of water. Headaches can be caused by dehydration. Once you’re adequately hydrated, your blood will flow more smoothly and the pain should subside.

Another natural headache cure: Pinch the spot between your thumb and index finger for 60 seconds. That’s an acupressure point that can relieve head pain.

Lastly, try aromatherapy – and take a whiff of an essential oil like eucalyptus, basil or peppermint. They all trigger a relaxation response.
