According to the Anti-Alzheimer’s Clinic in California we need to stress less and sleep more. Scientists say long term sleep-deprivation, along with chronic stress, lowers levels of two essential brain chemicals…and that can QUADRUPLE our risk for Alzheimer’s. So, if taking on yet another task is going to stress you out – DON’T DO IT! And skip the late-night TV so you can get more rest. Remember stress less, sleep more, lower your risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

One of the hardest things about losing weight is giving up all your favorite foods.

But you don’t have to. Just give up one! Just letting go of one of your favorite vice foods can make a huge difference.

Image

For example, letting go of candy & sweets could save you at least 300 calories a day. That’s because the simple carbs in candy digest quickly, leading to a spike-and-crash in your energy level which makes you eat more. I gave up sugar a couple years ago and I had some cravings in the beginning, especially after dinner, but now I no longer get that horrible crash-feeling an hour after I eat a chocolate soufflé. My family thinks I’m crazy, but I take a whiff of the after dinner dessert and that’s all I need.

International Airport - 1985

Bill Bixby and myself on the set of a ‘International Airport’ from 1985, filmed at LAX. He was a really great man and I was lucky to have known him.

You might try the all-you-can-eat shrimp.

The omega-3 fatty acids in shellfish boost your mood by reducing stress hormones like cortisol. People who eat 3 or 4 ounces daily lower their risk of anxiety, stress and depression by 30%. And shrimp are low in calories! A shrimp dipped in cocktail sauce has only 10 calories and zero grams of fat.

like a cranky baby. It’s all chemical – because not eating for a while can cause levels of the happy hormone, serotonin, to drop. That makes it more difficult to regulate our emotions. So, to stay on an even keel, never get to the point where you’re absolutely famished.

If you answered “NO,” I have news for you – your cell phone is dirtier than a toilet seat! It’s touched all the time – and the heat it emits helps germs multiply. So wipe it down every day.

I know many of you already know this, but I feel it’s important and everyone should share this information. I’ve known too many young people who have had heart attacks. It’s not just something that happens to older or overweight people. It can happen to anybody!

Image

But would you recognize the signs if you were having a heart attack? 70% of people DON’T know the five warning signs of a heart attack. So here they are:

•Pain or discomfort in the jaw, neck and back

•Feeling weak or lightheaded

•Chest pain

•Arm or shoulder pain

•Shortness of breath

The longer a person waits to get treatment for a heart attack, the more damage to the heart muscle.

So know those warning signs and dial 911.

Try this exercise from Temple University:
Once a day, watch 5 cars go by, and make a mental note of the colors, in order. After the fifth car passes, distract yourself for 30 seconds. Then, try to remember the sequence of colors. Once you can list 5 colors in a row, work up to six, seven or eight. Then you can start adding details, like the type of car….Say, black SUV, white pickup, red sports car….Do this once a day, and after a month, it’ll boost your memory by about 20%.

I’ve had my share of perms.

It’s never too late to quit smoking – even if you’ve got cancer! Doctors say putting the cigarettes away could actually double a lung cancer patient’s odds of survival over five years. And I admit it – I used to smoke. But I haven’t picked up a cigarette in over 25 years!
