This comes from the journal Obesity. Studies show, people who stepped on a scale once a week GAINED 2.4 pounds in a year. Those who weighed themselves every day LOST 1.1 pounds in that same year – without changing any of their habits. It works because you can address any weight changes before they snowball. So put your scale right by your shower. That way you can step on it right before you get in – and you won’t forget to weigh yourself every day.

If you’re trying to drop pounds, weigh yourself regularly! The Obesity Society found people who weighed themselves 4 times a week lost more weight than those who weighed themselves less. Because closely monitoring your progress increases motivation. And if you notice you gained a pound or two, you can make a correction before things get out of hand. So remember, if you’re trying to lose weight – or keep it off – getting on the scale 4 times a week is the magic number.

This tip may help you eat less and drop pounds over the long-haul.

Set the mood. Nutrition scientist Dr. Brian Wansink says rooms with candlelight and soft music help people eat about 120 fewer calories per meal… Compared to eating somewhere bright and loud. That’s because a relaxed atmosphere encourages us to chew more slowly, so we take about 8 minutes longer to eat… Which may just be long enough for our brain to register our stomach’s “I’m full” signals.

If you want to weigh yourself when you’re at your lightest – step on the scale Friday morning, right when you wake up. We’re always at our lightest weight of the day when we wake up because we’ve been fasting overnight. Plus, we typically weigh the most on Mondays – after a weekend of indulging – and as the week progresses, we weigh less, since our weekday eating is more regimented.
