And a new study out of Queen Mary University in London says, if we just gave them a chance, goats could be our new best friends! The researchers say goats have the same capacity to bond with humans as puppies do – by looking into humans’ eyes. And the researchers say when there’s eye contact with a goat, the bonding hormone oxytocin is released in both the goat and the human. The behavior is called “directed gazing.” And domesticated horses do it, as well as dogs and goats.

Don’t eat citrus fruit before a day in the sun! Because citrus contains compounds that make skin more vulnerable to UV light. A study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology followed 100-thousand people for 25 years. And skin cancer risk was highest in those who ate oranges and grapefruit daily, and lowest in those who ate it twice a week. But skin photosensitivity drops over time. So if you wait 4 hours after eating citrus to get some sun, you’ll cut your risk for skin cancer.

If you love searching for a great bargain – it’s a trait you probably inherited from one of your parents. And you’ll probably pass that enthusiasm for saving money onto your own kids. Researchers say the way we handle money is a learned behavior. And if you had parents who made saving money seem like a fun adventure – instead of a sacrifice or a chore – you’re more likely to have a healthy relationship with money and saving.

Yes! Microbiologist Dr. Charles Gerba says dog and human mouths contain different types of bacteria. And what’s in a dog’s mouth can cause gum disease in you, or salmonella poisoning. Face it – we love our dogs but, as Dr. Gerba puts it, “They use their tongue for toilet paper.” So keep dog slobber away from your mouth. Besides, dogs don’t have the enzymes to process dairy – so ice cream will give Rover the runs.

Restaurants with loud music, where you can barely hear anyone talk, are making you overeat. Because you can’t hear yourself chew. Researchers from Brigham Young University had groups of people munch on snacks. And those that wore headphones, with music blasting, ate more than those eating in silence. In another experiment, the people told to imagine chewing noises ate less, too. The researchers say actually listening to yourself chew makes you more mindful of how much you’re eating. So, if you want to eat less, eat somewhere quiet.

Ladies, if you don’t want to be mosquito bait, skip the floral perfume. Floral scents given off by deodorants and perfumes attract mosquitoes. Instead, switch to an essential oil, like vanilla, lavender or cedar. Those are scents that repel female mosquitos. And female mosquitos are the ones that bite.

Because a steady beat can help you run longer and more efficiently. And picking up your pace just 10% – from 140 beats per minute to 155 beats per minute – can reduce the stress on your knees! That’s because shorter steps reduce impact. You can use an app like Cruise Control Run, which will change the beat of any song on your smartphone to match your desired pace.

But before you start cranking the air conditioning 24/7, clean your unit. Because, if you haven’t changed the filter and vacuumed out the vents, the moving air will spew out dust and debris, which can irritate lungs and trigger allergies. Plus, a dirty A/C can cost you money. Because, if the filter is clogged, the air won’t flow as well, which wastes electricity.

Psychology professor Yuna Ferguson says, when we have the intention to feel happier, we’re more likely to notice and

appreciate the good things around us.

It turns out vegetarians are most likely to cheat on their eating lifestyle when they’ve had a little too much to drink!

According to the Humane Research Council, more than a third of vegetarians eat meat when they’ve been drinking alcohol. And 69% say they don’t admit it to anyone.

But nutritionist Lisa Young says, if you’re a vegetarian and cheat every now and then, don’t let anyone give you a hard time… because even just cutting back on meat consumption a little has been linked to a longer life.
