The fix for ugly toenails is simple – cut them more often! Because when toenails grow too long, it can cause discoloration, blisters and infections. That’s according to podiatrist Dr. Coleen Napolitano from Loyola University Medical Center. She says, if a toenail grows too long, it can jam the end of your shoe, causing a micro-trauma with each step. Soon, the nail will become discolored… Or the micro-traumas can cause the nail to lift off the nail bed. That can lead to blisters and fungal infections. So trim your nails regularly. Dr. Napolitano says our toenails should not extend farther than the end of the toe.
