On a day when you need to think positively, put on something orange. According to The Color Association of The United States, it’s an energizing color – because it’s between red, which increases adrenaline – but can also make you feel aggressive… and yellow, which promotes energy and social interaction – but can also exhaust the eye. So orange is the perfect in-between color. And looking at it will give you a mood boost and help get you through the day in a positive state of mind.

If you have a tattoo, and you’re going to be in the sun, protect it with sunscreen. Because the sun can fade your ink over time– or change the colors. The best sunscreens for tattoos contain zinc oxide – and you don’t need a fancy brand to get that. In fact, it’s in every bottle of Coppertone. Zinc oxide stays on TOP of your skin, forming a physical barrier – instead of sinking in, and creating a chemical barrier. But don’t worry, even though it’s creating a physical barrier, you won’t see it. Plus, because zinc oxide isn’t absorbed into the skin, it’s non-irritating and non-allergenic.

Book it on a Saturday. Because the weather, and the air quality, will be better. NASA scientists say Saturdays are the sunniest days, thanks to air pollution. Because during the week, when most people commute, tiny particles from vehicle tailpipes and industrial smokestacks attract water droplets, forming rain and storms. On the weekends, there’s less pollution, meaning fewer storms, cleaner air, and sunnier days.

Watermelon, carrots, squash and spinach. According to the European Journal of Nutrition, people who eat the most watermelon, carrots, squash and spinach have DNA that ages more slowly. As a result, those people have a lower risk of age-related problems, like Alzheimer’s, cancer and cardiovascular disease. The power is in the antioxidants that control the plant’s pigment! They’re called carotenoids, and they give fruits and vegetables their bright colors – and help protect against disease by fortifying cells from damage. So load up on watermelon, carrots, squash and spinach.

Environmental experts at the Vancouver School of Economics analyzed a BILLION tweets, comparing temperatures, and the use of positive and negative words and emojis. The result: Going from a mild 70-degrees to hot 90-degrees causes the same happiness dip we experience going from a relaxing Sunday to back to work on Monday. And when the temperature tops 100 degrees, people are 3 TIMES unhappier than when the weather’s cold. So why are we more irritable when it’s hot out? First, because high temperatures increase our heart rate, testosterone, and other metabolic reactions that trigger our stress response. Also, psychologically, hot weather makes us feel out of control. Because if it’s cold you can wear more layers… but, when it’s hot, after a certain point, you can’t remove any more clothing to cool down. And when we feel we have no control, it makes us stressed out, anxious, and irritable.

Like a zoo, amusement park, playground, even your local dog park. Researchers from Japan’s Hiroshima University found when you see someone else laughing and smiling – even a stranger – your brain automatically mimics their emotion. So, you’ll smile and feel happier, too. And just watching energetic dogs and puppies run and play in the sun activates the reward centers in the brain, which can make you feel happier in seconds.

Grab some oatmeal. Just measure out one tablespoon of uncooked oats, and chew them thoroughly before swallowing. The book “The Reflux Diet” says uncooked oatmeal absorbs the stomach acid that causes heartburn. And it’s a safe, natural alternative to taking antacids.

If you’re feeling sore and achy, you can get some relief by adjusting the lighting in your environment. Specifically, turn on more lights during the day, and turn off ALL lights at night. When the Cleveland Clinic did that in a hospital, patients recovering from illness and surgery experienced significantly less pain and were more optimistic. It works because exposure to bright light during the day, and absolute darkness at night resets our inner body clock. That, in turn, cuts inflammation and boosts energy – and those are two key elements when it comes to decreasing pain and negativity.

Put a pot of Gerbera daisies in your bedroom! Most plants release oxygen during the day, but these daisies release it at night. So they can help you sleep better. Plus, a study from NASA found Gerbera daisies are one of the most effective plants at removing benzene from the air. That’s a chemical in household products linked to headaches, eye irritation, and even cancer. And put the Gerbera daisies by a window, because they need sun. And when the blooms droop and die, pinch them off to stimulate new growth.

boost your metabolism, burn more calories, Connie Sellecca, conniesellecca, intelligence for your life, intelligenceforyourlife, metabolism, muscle mass, weight gain

It slows down as we age because we naturally lose muscle mass. So you may have burned 2‑thousand calories a day just existing at age 20. But by age 40, you’re burning 80 calories less. That may not sound like much. But if you don’t burn off 80 more calories every day – or eat 80 fewer calories – you’ll pack on 8 extra pounds in a year.
