Look far away. Switch from looking at your computer... to looking out the window into the distance. Doing that literally shifts your focus, helping to reset your brain. And that can be mentally restorative and invigorating.

If you’re about to cry when you shouldn’t, it’s possible to hold back your tears. Simply clear your throat. The “ahem” motion interrupts the mechanism in your nasal passages and larynx that controls crying. Then, swallow……That lifts your tongue to the roof of your mouth, blocks the soft palate, and makes it impossible to cry.

Spinning or rowing? According to exercise physiologist John Porcari, if you want a total-body workout, you can’t beat a rowing machine…also known as an ‘ergometer’. It works your legs, rear, shoulders, back, arms and core all at once. And all you need is 20 minutes to get a complete workout… One and done. Spinning is good – but it mostly works your legs.

For an energy-boost…

sit under a tree. The University of Michigan found that smelling the organic aroma of growing trees – and listening to soothing nature sounds, like the rustling of leaves – stimulates your brain’s frontal lobe…And increases production of energy-boosting beta waves…Which can literally double your energy in as little as 10 minutes.

Everyone loves that “new car smell” right?

A lot of people say that one of the joys of buying a new car is inhaling the “new car smell.” But “new car smell” is actually a fog of 275 toxic chemicals evaporating from the plastic and glue in your automobile’s interior…… Including chromium, lead and brominated flame-retardants……Chemicals that have been linked to birth defects, impaired learning, liver problems and cancer. Bottom line: When you get a new car, you’d be better off driving with the windows open for the first few days to air it out, and get rid of the toxins.

•First: Go shopping! Several studies show that shopping gets your mind and body moving – both of which benefit the brain.

•The second way to age-proof your brain: Watch something funny. According to research at Stanford University, hearing a joke engages most of the major regions of your brain. And the more you use your gray matter, the healthier it stays over time.

You can stop your worries cold – simply by brushing your teeth!
Clinical psychologists say that brushing your teeth instantly stimulates most of your senses…… Including taste, smell, touch and hearing. In fact, the act is so distracting, it interrupts the worry cycle. Plus, the minty scent increases production of calming beta brainwaves.

Got the urge for a late-night snack? Stop and think first.

Here’s something to keep in mind when a late-night snack attack strikes. The food we eat fuels the hours ahead…Not the hours that have passed. So even if you haven’t eaten all day – and you make a big plate of pasta at 9pm at night – unless you’re staying up and being active for the next 5 or 6 hours, you won’t burn as much of it for fuel and you’re more likely to gain weight. So we want to do the majority of our eating when we’re active…That way, we’ll process the food we eat most efficiently. So when you eat, matters as much as what you eat.

Eat cilantro for energy.

To feel energized fast, add cilantro to your next meal. One tablespoon of fresh cilantro is enough to increase energy within 20 minutes. That’s because cilantro has properties that help our muscles and brain process glucose for fuel. The result is instant energy.
