because iceberg lettuce is actually good for you! The CDC found that iceberg lettuce ranks higher in density of the 17 most important nutrients than many other super-healthy fruits and vegetables. For example, it’s more nutrient-dense than sweet potatoes and blueberries! And it isn’t far behind broccoli and kale. So, when your kale-snob friend looks at your iceberg salad with scorn – let them know the CDC says it’s actually really healthy!

Want a simple medication-free way to reduce your potential for heartburn? Breathe more deeply. That’s according to Dr. Sophie Balzora, a gastroenterologist from NYU Medical Center. She says 30 minutes of deep breathing exercises every day can relieve acid reflux symptoms because it strengthens the muscles in your lower esophagus. So inhale through your nose, drawing air deep into your lungs, then exhale through your mouth. A good time to practice is when you’re commuting to and from work.

Because when you have a cold or flu, it helps clear your lungs. But suppressing a cough, on the other hand, stops the body from expelling mucus. If that happens, it can get trapped in the lungs and cause bronchitis.

Go to your mental happy place. Scientists from Oxford University found that counting things – although mind-numbing and tedious – doesn’t help us fall asleep any faster. But picturing a beautiful, pristine beach – or a sunny meadow with a babbling book – will do the trick. In a study, visualizing calming imagery helped people fall asleep 20 minutes sooner. So the next time you’re having trouble sleeping, picture your happy place.

And eating at least one piece of citrus fruit daily will lift your mood within days.

Research now points to pizza! The University of Illinois studied more than 12,000 kids over a 7-year span. And the research found that on the days when teens eat pizza, they consume 230 more calories overall. The problem is that they don’t cut back on their other meals on pizza days. So the researchers suggest that when we let our kids have pizza, we pair it with an equal amount of salad or a vegetable. So, 2 slices plus a salad, instead of letting kids eat 4 slices on their own.

Pick a target range – like, “I want to lose between 15 and 20 pounds.” That works better than choosing one specific number, like “I want to lose 18 pounds.” According to research from Florida State University, people who had a number range were more likely to meet their goals. That’s because a wider range challenges you to reach the high number – and the low number gives you a goal that’s more realistic. Which helps keep you motivated.

According to dermatologist Dr. Adam Friedman, honey has antibacterial properties that help soothe chapped lips, and heal wounds. For best results, he says dampen your lips with lukewarm water, then apply a thin layer of honey. Once the water dries, apply a layer of petroleum jelly, and let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes before removing it with a moistened cotton swab. Do that once a day, and Dr. Friedman says your chapped lips should be healed in no time.

Guys, if you’re trying to have a baby, stop using your heated car seats!
Just like sitting in a hot tub, or resting a laptop on your lap – the heat will raise your scrotal temperature and damage sperm. That’s according to the journal New Scientist. So switch off those seat warmers if you’re trying to make a baby.

Ladies: When it comes to PMS, two foods can help you feel better:

•First: Flaxseed. It can reduce the severity of cramps, because it’s loaded with omega-3 fatty acids. They reduce inflammation – and prevent production of a chemical that intensifies muscle contractions.

•Another PMS food: Spinach. The magnesium in spinach eliminates excess fluid from the cells in your body, to reduce bloating.
