Kids who suck their thumbs for years can force their teeth out of alignment. But they’d probably need braces anyway. The good news is: It reduces their risk of developing allergies! That’s from a study of over a‑thousand kids in Pediatrics. Because kids’ fingers are disgustingly germy. And by regularly ingesting those germs in small amounts, kids build up a tolerance to pollen, pet dander, and dust. And kids who suck their thumb AND bite their nails get an even bigger immune-boosting effect!

Order Italian! Get some minestrone soup and an order of garlic bread – with extra garlic. That meal can help you heal a day and a half faster, according to experts from the University of Nebraska. The key is the vegetable-rich soup, which has tons of antioxidants, and is also hydrating… and the sulfur compounds in the garlic, which act as an anti-inflammatory. And they’re both immune-system boosters.

Kiss your partner! According to the journal Microbiome, just 10 seconds of kissing can transfer 80 million germs from one person’s mouth to another’s. It sounds gross, but the health benefits are huge. Because when we’re exposed to other people’s germs, it helps us build immunity to those new germs. In fact, kissing could help protect a couple’s future babies from being infected in utero from viruses.

Research shows that getting at least 7 hours of sleep a night cuts our risk of illness by 33%. But our crazy-busy lives, and our love of late-in-the-day caffeine, mean we don’t always get the sleep we need.

So, try this: Spend at least 2 minutes a day cuddling your loved ones, or your pets. Cuddling with another creature signals our immune system to boost production of disease-fighting white blood cells. And researchers at Carnegie Mellon University found that we get just as big an immunity boost from cuddling as we get from regularly getting a full night’s sleep.

If you want a quick immunity booster, eat more shellfish!

It contains selenium and zinc – nutrients that can cut the time you struggle with a cold or the flu by nearly half! Your best bet: Get two 6-ounce servings a week of shrimp, crab, oysters, or mussels.  And there’s a natural way to grow stronger hair and make it grow faster. Try eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Yup, the same stuff that’s good for your heart is good for your hair. And get some more iron too, with dark-green vegetables like spinach and broccoli. Iron increases blood circulation to the scalp and help keep hair healthy from the root.
