Do you eat only wild-caught fish because you’ve heard farmed seafood is contaminated? Well, according to the Monterey Bay Aquarium “Seafood Watch” program, many types of farmed fish are just as low in mercury and other chemicals as the wild-caught versions. AND packed with healthy omega-3 fatty acids. So, the scientists say we should feel free to eat farmed rainbow trout, farmed oysters, farmed arctic char, and farmed bay scallops. Because they’re all healthy and safe.

When they’re both organic and grass-fed, they have the same amount of amino acids, which repair and build muscle. But goat’s milk contains more omega-3 fatty acids – which improve heart and brain health. Plus more calcium, magnesium, and C‑L‑A – that’s a type of acid that lowers our risk for cancer and reduces body fat. So, go for goat’s milk!

By age 50, 2-in-3 women will have thinning hair, too. So what can you do about it? Get more Omega-3 fatty acids in your diet! Experts say getting 3 servings a week of shrimp, tuna, salmon or mackerel can increase your hair’s strength and thickness by 38% That’s because seafood contains essential Omega-3s AND selenium and copper, which speed the repair and replacement of hair follicles, and boost the body’s natural production of keratin, the protein in the hair shaft, so hair is thicker.

Eat a handful of walnuts a day! According to a study in the Journal Of Cosmetic Dermatology, the omega-3 fatty acids in walnuts helped reverse hair loss in 90% of the women studied… and 87% of them reported growing thicker hair. The omega-3s in walnuts provide hair cells with the building blocks they need to function at their best. And walnuts have more omega-3s than any other nut. So eat a handful a day for thicker, healthier hair.

How does a nice piece of grilled fish sound, complemented by a crisp glass of wine? That combo is a one-two punch for heart health. Both the fish and the wine are healthy on their own. But a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found the combination of the polyphenols in wine make it easier for our cells to absorb the Omega-3 fatty acids in the fish. And just 5 ounces of wine will do the trick.

And if you add a side dish of red peppers with garlic to your wine and fish, it’ll trigger the production of blood-vessel relaxing compounds – which will help lower your blood pressure – and boost your heart health even further.

If you want to live at least two years longer – or more – eat plenty of fish! That’s the gist of research from the Harvard School of Public Health… which found the Omega-3 fatty acids in fish lower our risk for heart disease, depression, asthma, Alzheimer’s and more. The types of fish with the most Omega-3s include salmon, albacore tuna, lake trout, herring, and mackerel. And the researchers recommend eating at least two servings a week.

Having a tuna sandwich for lunch one day a week – and grilled salmon for dinner one night – could be all you need to sleep better. The journal Sleep Medicine found people who have two servings of oily fish a week sleep deeper and more soundly than those who eat less fish. That’s because the omega‑3 fatty acids help the body produce more sleep-promoting chemicals. That reduces nighttime awakenings and increases vitamin D levels, which help improve sleep, too.

…like wild salmon and sardines, three times a week. According to Kyoto University in Japan, those who eat a diet high in fish – or omega-3 fatty acids – gain up to 25% less body fat than those who don’t consume as much fish. The reason? Fish oil turns our white fat cells – the ones that create our love handles – into brown fat cells. Those are the kind that rev our metabolism and help us burn more calories! So, make fatty fish a bigger part of your diet to lose weight.

It’s easy… Eat wild salmon 3 times a week. That’s it. According to the Cleveland Clinic, adding 3 servings of salmon to your weekly diet can help you lose a pound a week – without exercise – and give you the energy of someone 12 years younger! That’s because of the combination of Omega-3 fatty acids – and antioxidants called carotenoids, which give salmon its bright peach color. They increase the body’s ability to burn stored fat for energy. And help fortify cells against free-radical damage – so you don’t age as quickly.

If you’d like your child to get a better night’s sleep, feed them more foods that contain Omega-3 fatty acids. A recent study in the Journal of Sleep Research found that children getting 600 milligrams of Omega-3s a day slept an hour longer and woke up 7 times less often, than kids who weren’t getting the Omega-3s. They believe it’s because fatty acids trigger production of the sleep hormone, melatonin.
