Maybe you’ve noticed something at your kid’s school… fewer kids are playing football. There’s been about a 4% drop in kids signing up for – or trying out for football. Football participation is at its lowest level in a decade. Meanwhile, high school sports participation overall is at an all-time high. So what’s the deal with football? Experts think it’s a reaction to all the discussion about concussions. And more parents and kids don’t want to take the risk of potential life-long, traumatic brain injuries. So if kids aren’t playing football, what ARE they playing? Participation is way up in two other sports for boys and girls: Soccer and volleyball.
