Maybe you’ve noticed something at your kid’s school… fewer kids are playing football. There’s been about a 4% drop in kids signing up for – or trying out for football. Football participation is at its lowest level in a decade. Meanwhile, high school sports participation overall is at an all-time high. So what’s the deal with football? Experts think it’s a reaction to all the discussion about concussions. And more parents and kids don’t want to take the risk of potential life-long, traumatic brain injuries. So if kids aren’t playing football, what ARE they playing? Participation is way up in two other sports for boys and girls: Soccer and volleyball.

We’re all so busy looking down at our phones that we’re falling down the stairs, tripping over the cat, and slipping on throw rugs. In fact, over half of all walking-and-talking cellphone accidents happen at home! That’s according to the University of Maryland. And 1‑in‑5 at-home cellphone-related falls causes a concussion! So if you’re not going to watch your step – at least clear a path in the most used areas – like between the couch and the kitchen. So you don’t wind up breaking your neck.

Be careful trimming your Christmas tree! According to the CDC, nearly 6,000 people in the US are treated every year in emergency rooms for falls that occur while putting decorations on Christmas trees. So make sure your ladder is secure and stable before putting the star on top of the tree.
