Registered dietician Kristen Smith says one serving of ice cream provides 10% of the calcium we need daily. And calcium is proven to reduce tension and anxiety. Plus, the fat in ice cream helps our body absorb minerals and nutrients that help regulate mood. Which is why people who eat full-fat foods have lower rates of depression than people on low-fat diets. So how much ice cream can we have daily? One half-cup. That’s about the size of a tennis ball. If you’re watching your calories, get slow-churned ice cream. It contains more air, which means fewer calories per serving.

When it’s time for dessert – choose something round… Like a cookie, flan or crème brulée in a ramekin. Research shows our brain finds round desserts sweeter, with an overall better flavor. So even if you’re making homemade cookies, use a cookie cutter. You’ll enjoy the cookies more – and that’ll help you eat fewer of them. Because your brain will be more satisfied.

So what is it that makes a milkshake so irresistible… the sugar, the fat, or the flavor? Researchers at the Seattle VA Medical Center say it’s the sweet stuff. Unlike fat, sugar is rapidly absorbed by the body, and the metabolic effects are immediate. As a result, we want more. The simple solution? Avoid foods with added sugar. Not only will you cut extra calories, but you’ll also be less likely to binge.

Does your dog eat grass from time to time? Some people think animals eat grass to induce vomiting when they’re not feeling well. But researchers from Tufts University say most dogs eat grass because they like the taste and it aids digestion.

Frozen treats actually HELP migraines! That’s because eating something frozen lowers the brain’s temperature. That constricts blood vessels and can shut down head pain. According to the University of Hawaii, this “brain chilling” effect reduces migraine pain by over 30% in 30 minutes.

If you’re trying to decide between juice with pulp or without – choose “with!” Pulp in your juice is loaded with disease-fighting nutrients. For example, orange juice with pulp has 30% more anti-inflammatory properties – and cancer-fighting properties. That’s according to the food science department at Colorado State University. So if you can’t eat a real orange or a whole piece of fruit – 100% juice with pulp is the next best thing.

After a tough workout, have salmon for dinner. It’ll help with muscle soreness and tenderness. That’s according to sports physician Jordan Metzl. He says the omega-3 fatty acids in fish are anti-inflammatory. And just like they’re good for your heart – they’re good for your muscles, too.

You don’t need fresh blueberries for your smoothie. Go ahead and use frozen ones. They’re even more nutritious. That’s because the ice crystals that form during freezing break down the plant cells. That means, when you finally eat them, the nutrients and antioxidants will be more easily absorbed.
