Tap your chest!

There’s an acupressure point in the middle of the breastbone – at about where your third rib would be. Gently tap that point for a minute every couple of hours. Eastern medicine experts say it’ll trigger the thymus gland to produce more T-cells, which are the cells that help our immune system find and attack viruses.

Viruses are much more likely to multiply in warm climates – like indoors. In fact, a study published by the Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine found that cold weather may actually stimulate your immune system. So, grab your scarf, coat, and mittens – and enjoy the chilly air.

…they’ll be bringing home more than homework. They’ll also be bringing home the germs and viruses they pick up their friends. According to Dr. Mehmet Oz, there’s a spike in illnesses among kids every Fall. So, remind your kids to wash their hands frequently. Research shows that kids who wash their hands at least four times a day at school end up being absent fewer days.

While it’s true that the more people we’re around – the more infections we’re exposed to, that’s actually a good thing. It strengthens our immunity over time. And the British Medical Journal found that extroverts, who spent a lot of time with others, had heartier immune systems and were more resilient when they did get sick, than loners. Another upside of being social? Researchers think that spending time with other people stimulates certain genes that help the body fight off viruses.

If you have a cold, avoid pain meds like aspirin, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen. University of Maryland research suggests taking them can lengthen your illness by 3 and a half days!
The problem? Painkillers shut down your fever, which is the quickest way for your body to destroy viruses.

Nope. Colds and flu are caused by viruses, not weather. However, cold, dry air keeps viruses alive longer – so we’re more likely to catch them. But as far as your workout, even if it’s chilly, go for it. You can actually burn more calories in the cold. Just make sure if it’s really cold to keep your fingers covered and your feet warm so you don’t end up with frostbite.

So, it’s especially important to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds after handling money at the store or at a bank.

Try some oregano oil…It’s a natural sore throat remedy because it’s packed with antibiotic, anti-viral, and antiseptic properties.

In fact, experts say that oregano oil reduces throat inflammation and pain within 48 hours. It also makes the cells in the lining of your throat more resistant to viruses.

Simply mix 2 drops of oregano oil into 12 ounces of water and gargle two times daily.

One of the reasons we get more viruses in fall and winter is because the air is drier. A lack of humidity allows viruses to thrive and makes it harder for our nasal passages to trap and eliminate them. So keep a humidifier going at home. But make sure to keep it clean. Put about 5 drops of oregano, eucalyptus or peppermint oil in the water reservoir. The oil will reduce germs and make the air smell nice. However, you’ll still need to clean the reservoir weekly.

Image• The coffee pot handle. It has more bacteria than a toilet seat. The same goes for the other break room hot spots: like faucets, sinks, microwave buttons, and refrigerator handles.

• Then there’s your desk. Studies show that most desk areas are filled with fungus and parasites, along with the viruses and bacteria that can cause colds and flu.

If you’re tempted to run out of the building right now, remember: A massive numbers of germs also collect on elevator buttons – especially the button for the lobby and parking lot.
