Warm some milk to room temperature, then swish it around your mouth for 5 minutes, 5 times a day. A recent study found that can dramatically reduce tooth sensitivity. And for over 50% of people, it provided total relief within 10 days! That’s because milk has a protein called casein, which thickens tooth enamel. And milk helps protect sensitive nerve endings by plugging open pores in tooth enamel with calcium phosphate. That’s the gist of research from the University of Copenhagen. Which found that a piece of fruit does as much damage as a bowl of ice cream. The reason? Because we need saliva to remove leftover food particles from our mouth. But since we produce much less saliva at night, the sugars and acids from foods and drinks stick to our teeth longer, which can lead to serious damage and staining.

So, if you eat or drink at night – make sure you wait at least half an hour for your tooth enamel to re-harden, then brush before bed.

If you love coffee, know this: Wait 30 minutes after drinking it before brushing your teeth! That’s because the acid in the coffee weakens tooth enamel. And if you brush immediately afterward, you’ll damage your teeth even more. That’s according to the Mayo Clinic.

Don’t brush your teeth right after meals!

It’s not as gross as it sounds: It turns out, the acids in many foods soften tooth enamel, making your teeth vulnerable to damage from brushing.
So, wait at least an hour. By then, the acids will have cleared and the enamel will have re-hardened. Also, you can’t speed the process, rinsing your mouth with water won’t make a difference. So just wait.

Sometimes, you just can’t cut corners – and one of those times is when it comes to basic hygiene.

That’s because ignoring certain basics can be downright dangerous. For example:

First: Sleeping in your contacts. It boosts your risk of developing infections by a whopping 1,000%. And can cause cornea scarring and permanent vision damage. In fact, one ophthalmologist from NYU Medical Center says 95% of the eye infections he treats come from someone sleeping in their contacts. So, take your contacts out and use new solution every time you clean and store them. If you don’t, it’s like taking a bath in yesterday’s dirty bath water.

Next: Not flossing. Experts say if you’re not flossing every day – it’s like taking a shower – but only washing your chest and back and forgetting your armpits and privates. You’re not getting 100% clean – and the spots you’re missing are where bacteria can hide. And over time, if you’re not flossing, that trapped bacteria will eat away at your tooth enamel.
The best time to floss is before bed, so food doesn’t have 8 hours to fester between your teeth.

And ladies, don’t go to bed without taking your mascara off. Sleeping in mascara can cause eye swelling. So, do your face and health a favor and wash up every night.

This little fruit can help to whiten your teeth.
