Excellent. Because just one glass of tea, hot or iced, can improve your heart health. That’s according to the journal Clinical Nutrition. Researchers found that when people drank just one glass of tea, their blood flow was 6.5 times higher than before they drank the tea. And better blood flow is key to reducing conditions like Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. It’s down to the flavonoid compounds in tea, which widen blood vessels, improving circulation and lowering blood pressure.

For smooth, glossy hair, rinse your hair with tea! Dermatologist Dr. Deborah Jaliman says tea is anti-inflammatory and can reduce scalp irritation, so hair grows in healthier. And tea’s antioxidants smooth the hair’s cuticle, so it looks shinier. For dark hair, try black tea. For light hair, try chamomile. Steep 7 bags in 15 ounces of hot water for 15 minutes. Then, toss the bags, let the water cool, pour it over your hair, and rinse after 5 minutes. Try that weekly for shinier, smoother hair.

Swap your next cup of coffee for peppermint tea… it’s proven to boost your energy, focus AND alertness within minutes. That’s from The International Journal of Neuroscience. Researchers found that mint’s aroma alone helps stimulate the brain’s memory centers, which means it’ll clear up any brain fog that’s slowing you down, and help you focus. It’s similar to what happens when you first bite into a piece of peppermint gum, and you get an icy cool sensation in your mouth that wakes you up!

Meanwhile, menthol – which is the active ingredient in mint – is proven to relax muscles and arteries in a way that increases blood flow. The upshot being that if your energy is being dragged down by stress, for example, sipping peppermint tea is the perfect way to get your energy back.

Is one healthier than the other? Yes! Dr. Jeffrey Blumberg, antioxidant researcher at Tufts University, says tea’s healthy benefits come from its flavonoids. And HOT tea generally has the most because heat unlocks the compounds. But when you add ice, it dilutes the flavonoids and weakens the health benefits.

…make yourself a cup of spearmint tea. The American Academy of Dermatology found consuming 2 cups a day reduced acne in patients by 25% in one month. And if they kept it up for 3 months – their acne was cut in half! That’s as effective as prescription medication but with zero side effects.
So what’s the magic in spearmint tea? It calms the skin – and has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties. And spearmint is more effective than other types of mint… and kills the bacteria and yeast that cause skin problems.

…it may be time to make your go-to beverage green tea. Because compounds in green tea called catechins have been shown to help decrease levels of hormones linked to depression. That’s according to research from Japan’s Tohoku University. The researchers found that people who drank between 2 and 3 cups of green tea a day were 41% less likely to report feeling depressed, on average. But stick with freshly-brewed tea, not bottled. Because the fresher the tea is, the more mood-boosting antioxidants it contains.

Before you sip iced tea or iced coffee to cool off in sweltering heat, consider trying a HOT drink instead. It sounds counterintuitive, but it may cool you down better than something ice-cold.

Loughborough University researchers in the UK found hot drinks increase body temperature, and can trigger sweat, which is the body’s way of cooling off. That’s why many of the top tea-consuming countries – like India – have hot climates.

But other research shows cold drinks work best in extremely humid conditions since sweat evaporates more slowly in humid weather.

So when in Phoenix, drink hot tea. And in New Orleans or New York City, drink it iced.

Whether it’s black or green, a daily cup of tea may help you to live longer. The reason? Because it soothes your heart. Research from Johns Hopkins found that people who drink between 1 and 3 cups of tea a day have less calcium buildup in their arteries… which makes them 35% LESS likely to have a heart attack or stroke than those who DON’T drink tea.

Your favorite caffeinated beverage could help you stay younger – and healthier – longer! That’s according to Dr. David Furman, director of the Stanford Institute for Immunity and Infection.

He and his research team studied chronic inflammation – which gradually increases as we age. It’s linked to almost every single big-time disease, including heart problems, cancer, joint disorders and Alzheimer’s. And in the study, the participants with the lowest levels of inflammation – at any age – had one surprising thing in common: They all drank caffeinated beverages. And the more caffeine they consumed – up to 5 cups of coffee a day – the lower their inflammation levels… and the less likely they were to have symptoms of worsening health, like high blood pressure or hardening of the arteries.

So, why is caffeine such an effective anti-inflammatory? Because it greatly reduces activity along the body’s inflammatory gene pathway – and helps short-circuit the normal body-wide inflammation linked to aging.
