If you’re tanned or sunburned, you may stink more than usual. Because your body uses the mineral zinc to repair sun-damaged skin AND reduce body odor. This means a lot of us are low on zinc in the summer when our body is using more of it to save our skin. So load up on zinc-rich foods, like oysters, lobster, shrimp, crab, lean beef and dark meat chicken. Vegetarian? Try lentils, sesame seeds, and cashews. Just 30 milligrams of zinc a day can inhibit the growth of stinky bacteria on the skin. And you’ll get plenty from 2 oysters, or 3 shrimp.

Staying out of the sun! And according to the American Academy of Dermatology, protecting your skin from the sun has the greatest impact on how it ages – even more so than eating a healthy diet or exercising. The only thing that made people look equally as young was an obsessive use of sunscreen.

The study was done on hundreds of women, and those who avoided the sun looked up to 20 years younger than they actually were. And other supposed rules for maintaining a youthful complexion didn’t do diddly-squat – from drinking lots of water to sleeping well. Something to keep in mind now that it’s hot and sunbathing season is in full swing.

Because the sun accounts for 80% of all skin aging. And the older we get, the more damaging UV rays become. Sun damage is what causes brown spots, yellowing, reduced skin elasticity and sagging. And just a 2% increase in skin damage ages a face by three years. If that’s not enough incentive to wear sunscreen, there’s the threat of skin cancer, too. So, slather on sunscreen every day.

There IS such a thing as beauty sleep.

A study from University Hospitals Case Medical Center found that women who get 7-hours of sleep per night look younger. They have fewer lines and wrinkles, fewer age spots, and twice the skin elasticity as women who get less sleep.
That’s because when we’re asleep, our skin repairs itself from all the damage it encounters during the day… Things like sun, pollution and chemicals.

If you hate wrinkles – start loving raspberries!

There’s a compound in raspberries that protects the skin from sun damage. It blocks the enzymes that break down collagen and cause inflammation. So, if you don’t want wrinkles, eat raspberries.

Don’t forget the SUNSCREEN this weekend!

Be sure to cover the 4 most forgotten spots. They are: the back of your ears, the top of your feet, your lips and the most-overlooked sunscreen spot – the part in your hair on your scalp! Doctors say that’s an easy-to-forget area on your body that’s very susceptible to sun damage and skin cancer! So be sure to cover up this weekend.
