Eat more root vegetables, like carrots, beets, sweet potatoes and turnips. They contain powerful antioxidants that switch on enzymes that heal tissues and boost immunity. In fact, eating a half-cup of root vegetables a day can boost production of virus-attacking white blood cells by 53%! And you get a bonus with orange root vegetables like carrots and yams. Yale researchers say they contain beta-carotene that helps heal throat tissue damaged by acid reflux. So root vegetables can relieve your sore throat – from a cold and acid reflux.

Start gargling with salt water now. Salt is anti-bacterial – so gargling will reduce the chances of bacteria or a virus latching onto you by 25%. So mix a half-teaspoon of salt in warm water and gargle a couple times a day.

Don’t let it turn into something more serious, like a respiratory infection. And you can do that by gargling with salt water once a day. A Japanese study found that gargling with salt water not only soothed a sore throat – it reduced the odds of a more serious infection by 40%. That’s because salt is anti-microbial and anti-viral… so it removes microscopic viruses from the soft tissues of the throat. It also loosens mucus so you can cough it up and get it out.

Thyme!

It’s an inexpensive, natural cough remedy. Thyme has plant compounds that reduce the inflammation of a sore throat and relax throat muscles, so you don’t cough as much.

So try this: Add 1 teaspoon dried thyme or 2 teaspoons of fresh thyme to a cup of boiling water. Steep for 10 minutes, strain, add honey for even more cough-suppressing power – and sip!

For example: Honey in your tea is awesome – but putting honey on your cuts and burns can help heal them! The best choice is Manuka honey from New Zealand – which is packed with a potent antibacterial compound called methyl-glyoxal. Your best bet: Choose one with a Manuka Factor of 10 or higher… Which means it’s medical grade. Then slather it on burns and minor cuts, and cover, for faster healing. You’ll find Manuka honey at Walmart, Trader Joe’s and on Amazon.

Next: Honey is great for diabetics – because it’s better at helping keep glucose levels stable, compared to regular sugar. So, talk to your doctor about trading honey for anything you might sprinkle with sugar.

Finally: Honey and COFFEE can soothe a cough. Honey calms a dry, raspy throat, and a stimulant in caffeine can help expand your airways. So, if you want to stop hacking up a lung, add a teaspoon of honey to your next cup of coffee.

Gargle with plain water! The American Journal of Preventive Medicine says holiday gatherings with family, friends and coworkers triple our risk of getting sick. But gargling with water 3 times a day cuts our risk by 35%… Because gargling flushes out invading viruses before they can attach to the mucous membranes in our throat.

Try some oregano oil…It’s a natural sore throat remedy because it’s packed with antibiotic, anti-viral, and antiseptic properties.

In fact, experts say that oregano oil reduces throat inflammation and pain within 48 hours. It also makes the cells in the lining of your throat more resistant to viruses.

Simply mix 2 drops of oregano oil into 12 ounces of water and gargle two times daily.
