Guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics say infants should sleep in the same room as their parents for at least the first 6 months of life! Because it can cut a baby’s risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome – or SIDS – in half! HOWEVER, don’t put the baby in bed with you, just put their crib or bassinet in your bedroom. Because 60% of infant deaths are linked to co-sleeping.

The American Academy of Pediatrics also recommends placing sleeping babies on their backs, on a firm surface, with a tight-fitted sheet, and without pillows, crib bumpers, or soft toys, to reduce their risk of accidental suffocation.

Parents, know this! Experts now say we should NEVER cover a baby’s stroller with a blanket or gauze to protect them from the sun. Because Swedish researchers found even a thin cover reduces air circulation. And a covered stroller sitting in the sun gets 15 degrees HOTTER inside than a stroller left uncovered.

Plus, that can increase the risk of SIDS – or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome – which can be triggered by overheating. That’s from pediatrician Dr. Svante Norgren from the Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital in Stockholm. Especially since the blanket can block your view of the baby, and you may not know something’s wrong until it’s too late.

So, go ahead and attach some type of visor to your baby’s stroller – but never use a blanket to block the sun.
