One sleep position can help your back feel better AND reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s disease: Lie on your side, knees bent, with a pillow between your knees. That’s what’s known as the lateral position. That position alleviates strain on your back. And new research shows side-sleeping helps remove damaging brain proteins that can eventually contribute to the development of Alzheimer’s. That’s because lying on your side improves circulation to your head and neck, and increases oxygen flow.

By afternoon, indoor air pollution reaches its peak. And according to Johns Hopkins, those chemicals increase brain inflammation – which produces feelings of anxiety. But if you have a plant on your desk, it’ll absorb the pollutants and pump out oxygen, leaving you feeling calmer.
One of the best plants you can get is a spider plant. It’s hard to kill – and within 24 hours, it’ll soak up 87% of airborne pollutants and carbon dioxide in the immediate area. It’ll also eliminate dangerous volatile organic compounds from the air – like benzene, ozone and formaldehyde – that are emitted by plastic, fabric, printers and cleaning solvents.

If you yawn during exercise – does that mean you’re not working out hard enough? Nope. It’s completely normal. According to neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Newberg, we tend to yawn during our workouts simply because our brain’s trying to cool down. That’s because our head heats up when we exercise, causing our brain to gradually become less efficient. But yawning brings in extra oxygen, lowering brain temperature and boosting our energy. And that helps us exercise longer and more efficiently.

Here’s one of those tips that sounds ridiculously simple – so, why not try it?
To get a boost of energy, tap the spot between your nose and upper lip, 10 times, using your index and middle fingers. It’s called the “revival point” – and the tapping enhances blood flow and oxygen to the brain, which increases energy and alertness. And they call it the “revival point” because it’s a first-aid technique for restoring consciousness to someone who’s fainted.

If you desperately need a mid-afternoon nap, but don’t have time, try this instead:

Lie on your back with your legs in the air or propped against the wall for 30 seconds. It may sound simple, but that one move will boost blood flow and oxygen to your brain, making you feel instantly more awake.

Even slight dehydration makes it hard for your blood to carry nutrients and oxygen to your brain and muscles…which leaves you tired and unfocused. So, try coconut water, which contains electrolytes like potassium and calcium that help carry fluids to your brain.

Here’s a powerful change you can make today: Forgive someone.
Image

A growing body of evidence shows that holding a grudge can make you sick. It’s similar to having chronic stress. Holding on to negative feelings about someone restricts blood flow, decreases oxygen consumption and throws your immune and gastro-intestinal systems out of whack.
You may never forget how your ex did you wrong, and you don’t have to take them back, but if you forgive them, you’ll sleep better, have more energy, and be happier. Forgiveness works!
