Yes, as long as it doesn’t make you feel light-headed or nauseous. Sports nutritionist Brittany R. Allman says when we exercise on an empty stomach, our body burns stored carbs and fat, which can speed up weight loss. And exercising on a full stomach can speed digestion by helping move food from the stomach to the intestines. Still, we’re better off eating a maximum of 200 calories about an hour before a workout, that’s a combination of carbs for quick energy, and protein to help prevent muscle breakdown. Like a banana, and a couple tablespoons of peanut butter.

If you’ve ever stood up too quickly and felt lightheaded, you have. It’s the technical term for a head-rush! And it’s a form of low blood pressure that happens when you stand up after being seated or lying down for a while. So what can you do if you’re prone to head-rushes? Do what fighter pilots do and clench the muscles in your lower body to push blood back into your upper body.
Fighter pilots can experience a head-rush and even black out if they’re doing G-force maneuvers that exert extreme gravitational force on the body. And when that happens, it’s harder for blood to pump its way around the body, the brain doesn’t get the oxygen it needs, and you pass out. The way Air Force pilots combat this is by clenching the muscles in the lower body, starting with the calves, then thighs, then the abs and lower back. This squeezes blood back up in to your upper body, and you’ll feel normal almost instantly.

Be aware of how much your kids are exercising this summer. Young athletes are at risk of dehydration in hot, humid weather. An emergency room physician from the Cleveland Clinic says not getting enough water can lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Kids should be familiar with the signs they’re becoming dehydrated.

If they feel a Charlie horse in their legs, tingling fingers, dizziness, light-headedness, or cramps that won’t go away – those are all signs they aren’t getting enough water and are losing electrolytes. Kids produce more heat and sweat less than adults do. And they’re also less likely to drink enough water while exercising outside. So make sure your kids stay hydrated.
