If you’re getting anything waxed – from your lips to your legs – how can you make it hurt less? Schedule an appointment in the morning. Research at the National Institute of Mental Health found people are significantly less sensitive to pain in the morning than in the afternoon. That’s because our cortisol levels are higher… that’s a stress hormone that has anti-inflammatory benefits. Not only will you feel less pain, but you’ll cut down on any stinging, redness, and swelling.

The same goes for guys getting their chest or back waxed. Do it in the morning.

Whether you’re getting a shot, Botox or a mole removed, text a friend right before-hand. The distraction and social connection can make it less painful! Researchers from Cornell found people who texted a loved one before minor surgical procedures were 4 times less likely to need pain meds than people who didn’t text.

Do this to ease the pain: Cross your fingers. The journal Current Biology says crossing the injured finger over another can reduce the pain you feel. The researchers say it works because changing the position of your fingers fools the brain into feeling less pain.

If you’ll be running a marathon soon, here’s news that’ll make it a lot easier.
Go ahead and walk for a minute every mile-and-a-half you complete. According to a new German study, racers who did that finished as fast as those who ran the whole time…… BUT they felt less pain and fatigue, thanks to the built-in recovery time.

Mind over matter!

If you’re in pain, mentally “dialing it down” – like the volume on a stereo – can make you feel better! That’s according to psychology and neuroscience professor Dr. Tor Wager. His research shows that when people touched a hot-plate they actually felt less pain when they mentally “turned it down” – by telling themselves it was cooler than it actually was… Compared to those who just ignored it. Which means, if you’re feeling overheated, or your running shorts start chafing, tell yourself it doesn’t hurt that badly. That mental tweak will help the sensation of pain feel less intense, so you can push through and finish your 10K, or survive a sweltering summer.
