Breakfast really IS the most important meal of the day. In fact, new research from Harvard University found skipping breakfast raises your risk of heart disease and heart attack by as much as 27%. That’s because skipping breakfast makes you hungrier, making you more likely to grab snacks and overeat at lunch. And doing that can lead to weight gain, hypertension, high cholesterol, and Type 2 diabetes, all of which are risk factors for heart disease.

…make sure you end the day with some exercise. Most adults say one of their biggest sources of stress is their job. But according to a study in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, a workout after work is the best antidote. Because job stress is linked to heart problems – and the stress from a bad day at work can linger for 48 hours. Work stress can also lead to high cholesterol and depression. But even a small burst of exercise on the day you’re experiencing the stress can reduce those risk factors. So when things get tough, get going and break a sweat.

Research on over 35,000 people says YES!

According to the Queensland University of Technology, the average adult sits between 10 to 15-hours a day! And long-term sitting has been linked to obesity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and heart disease. But people who fidgeted while seated – by tapping their feet, drumming fingers, or jiggling legs – were able to reduce the damage done by too much sitting. And they ended up living longer, healthier lives than those who sat motionless at their desks all day.

If you’re looking to lower your cholesterol, you need some healthy fat… specifically the plant-based fat oleic acid. You’ll find it in olive oil, avocado, almonds and pecans. And according to Loma Linda University, it lowers bad cholesterol as quickly and effectively as prescription medications. You need about one-third of a cup of almonds and pecans daily. And two new studies show that eating an avocado a day is as effective as taking prescription statins for high cholesterol.

Job burnout – or smoking? Well, if you’re exhausted by your work – physically and emotionally… And your boss is a jerk… You’re a prime candidate for heart problems. A new study has found a strong link between job burnout and coronary heart disease – which is when plaque builds up in your arteries and can lead to a heart attack. In fact, people who were at the top of the job burnout scale were 80% more likely to have coronary disease. That was WAY more extreme than the researchers expected… and it makes job burnout a stronger predictor of heart disease than smoking, high cholesterol and stress! So if your job is making you sick – you may want to change jobs before it kills you, literally.

If you have high cholesterol, you might need to change the type of coffee you drink. In other words, if your coffee comes from a French press, or drips through a gold filter – you might want to switch to a paper filter. Why? Because UCLA researchers say that paper traps a compound in coffee that increases your liver’s fat production. And switching to paper filters could lower your cholesterol by 8%.
