That doesn’t give you a license to cheat on your spouse, but know this: Besides hurting your partner, cheaters suffer depression, anxiety, shame, and guilt. And according to a study in the journal Personality and Social Psychology, emotional infidelity causes a level of distress one-third greater than physical infidelity. But an emotional AND physical affair was by far the most damaging.

If you’d like to instantly eat less: Serve yourself! A study in the Journal Of Marketing found that when someone else dishes up your food – whether it’s your mom or the chef at a restaurant – you feel more obligated to eat what you’ve been given. But when we serve ourselves, we don’t feel that guilt. We subconsciously make healthier choices and give ourselves 30% less food. So when you can, serve yourself to eat less.

Even the lies we consider harmless – like, ‘Yes, I love your meatloaf!’ – can cause anxiety and body aches… Especially if you feel guilty about lying. Dr. Deirdre Fitzgerald is a professor of behavior analysis at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. And she says even lies to save face – or save someone else from embarrassment – can weaken the immune system – causing headaches, back pain, and diarrhea.
