If you’re stressed and can’t fall asleep, wiggle your toes for 60 seconds. Reflexologists say that a good toe-wiggling helps release energy in the feet, and triggers a relaxation response that gradually spreads through the whole body… You’ll be able to drift off quickly, and get a restful night’s sleep.

It’s also good for stinky feet. If you soak your feet in strong, lukewarm black tea a‑half hour a day, you can reduce foot sweating and odor. The tea’s tannic acid closes pores and dries out your feet, like an astringent. And if you add a little peppermint oil to your tea foot bath, it acts like an extra odor buster.

What’s the best way to ease sore and tired feet after a long day? Wrap a frozen water bottle in a towel, and roll it back and forth for about 5 minutes under each foot. It’s more effective than an ice pack – because while the ice reduces inflammation, the rolling massages your arches, and increases circulation.

Do this for 2 minutes to squash anxiety for 90 minutes: Walk barefoot!
The researchers at the University of Connecticut say it works by stimulating pressure points on the bottom of the feet that tell the brain to start pumping out calming GABA waves.

That’s according to research from UC Berkeley. Scientists say most balance disorders are caused by a problem in our inner ear or brain. But they’re also linked to muscle weakness in our feet. So any exercise that strengthens our feet can improve our coordination and balance.

That’s why researchers recommend doing toe curls. So try lifting your big toes without lifting the other toes. Or, use your feet to pick up small objects – like pencils. You’ll be less of a klutz in no time.

Which is worse: High heels or flip-flops?

Doctors say, between stilettos versus comfy flip-flops, high heels are actually the lesser of two evils. The American Podiatric Medical Association says flip-flops can cause tendinitis and even sprained ankles because they provide the foot with very little protection. And the lack of support in a flip-flop causes the arch to flatten……which can lead to plantar fasciitis and heel pain. But typically, high heels have arch support. So if you want to enjoy your flip-flops, doctors say: Wear them for only about two hours at a time, then find something else that’s sturdier.

Grab some rubbing alcohol. Podiatrist and foot surgeon Dr. Patrick DeHeer says rubbing alcohol has a drying effect that kills bacteria and fungus. It also reduces the amount of sweat your feet produce. And sweat mixed with bacteria is the root cause of smelly feet. So soak a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol, and swipe it across the soles of your feet in the morning. That’ll control moisture and odor all day.

Here’s why: A pregnant body produces a hormone called relaxin – which, true to its name, relaxes certain things… Like your pelvic ligaments and joints. It also relaxes ligaments in your feet – so your bones separate a little bit. Add to that the fact that you weigh more when you’re pregnant, and it causes your arches to fall. On average, a woman’s feet will grow by about a half size after having a baby. And that new size is permanent.

Avoiding a few common treadmill mistakes will increase the quality of your workout.

First: We need to stop looking at our feet. Auburn University fitness expert Dr. Michele Olson says a lot of gym newbies look down when they run, because they’re afraid they’re going to fall. But watching the spinning belt can cause vertigo. It also strains our neck, spine and calves…And the more we think about where we should put our feet, the more likely we are to misjudge our steps, and fall. The truth is: Keeping your shoulders back and your chin up when you’re running is the most stable position.

Next: Stop holding onto the bars. Since holding on supports some of our body weight, it means our workout is less intense. As a result, we burn fewer calories and build less muscle.

Finally: Don’t overdo it. We should only be minimally sore after a workout. And any pain should be in our muscles, not our joints. If our ankles, knees and hips are painful, or we’re so sore the next day we can barely move, we need to scale back our routine…And build up the length and intensity of our workouts gradually.

Be sure to cover the 4 most forgotten spots. They are: the back of your ears, the top of your feet, your lips and the most-overlooked sunscreen spot – the part in your hair on your scalp! Doctors say that’s an easy-to-forget area on your body that’s very susceptible to sun damage and skin cancer! So be sure to cover up this weekend.
