…keep the candy and snacks out of arm’s reach! Or you could end up pigging out. Researchers at Arizona State University say watching a gory movie or crime thriller makes us think about death, which can trigger stress eating, even when we’re not hungry. And when we’re riveted to the screen, we’re not paying attention to how much food we’re shoving in our mouth.

Night owls are more likely to gain weight than early birds.

That’s the gist of research by the Mayo Clinic. Which found that night owls eat about 550 extra calories a day – mostly junk food between the hours of 10PM and 4AM. That’s because night owls tend to sleep about 80 minutes less per night than early birds… which messes with their hunger and “I’m full” hormones – making them more likely to overeat.

Why do we eat so much when we’re stressed?
Because we can’t taste things as well! Now, 90% of us admit to stress eating – but stress suppresses our ability to taste. So we eat more – trying to taste our food! So when you’re stressed, reach for something spicy or strong tasting, like a pickle. Or, relax first without food. Take a walk, calm down, and when you eat, your taste buds will be functioning more normally and you’ll eat less.

Drink green tea every day.
In a recent 12-week study, people who drank 4 cups of green tea daily, and did a 25-minute workout, lost an average of two more pounds and more belly fat than those who exercised but DIDN’T drink green tea. The difference? It’s the catechins in green tea, which are a type of antioxidant that triggers the release of fat from fat cells, and helps speed up the liver’s ability to turn fat into energy.
