That’s love. Dr. Brian Hare founded the Canine Cognition Center at Duke University – and he says, when your dog gives you eye contact, she’s quote, “hugging you with her eyes.” Because it triggers the release of the bonding hormone oxytocin – the same hormone that helps mothers and babies bond. If you want to test this out, try to naturally maintain eye contact when you’re interacting with your dog and see how she responds. But only do this with your own dog. A strange dog may consider eye contact aggressive.

Forgiving someone who wronged you can do more than improve your mood. It can also relieve physical aches and pains! In a study at Duke University, people with lower back pain were told to work on letting go of their anger toward someone who’d wronged them. The result? Their pain levels dropped significantly. That’s because anger and other negative feelings trigger a reaction in the brain that increases the feelings of pain. But thinking calming, peaceful thoughts diminishes that perception, and helps ease the ache. So, if you want to feel fewer aches and pains, just forgive someone who upset you.

Or vacuumed? Because research shows a link between a dirty house and weight gain! Duke University researchers found that the chemicals released from furniture, rugs and pollution end up in the dust around our house. And breathing in chemical-laden dust makes fat cells swell and multiply! But when the dust goes away, the problem goes away. So regularly dust and vacuum, and invest in a HEPA air purifier for the room you spend the most time in. If you’re trying to lose weight, that may be the added ingredient that helps you start shedding pounds.

If you’re trying to quit smoking – drink milk! In a study of smokers conducted by Duke University, the participants reported that milk made cigarettes taste bad. So the thinking is – if you drink milk during your smoke break, your brain will eventually connect the bad milky taste in your mouth with a decreased desire to smoke!

That’s according to a recent study from Duke University. Researchers discovered that, compared to men, women experience more mental and physical consequences when they don’t get enough rest.
The study was led by clinical psychologist and sleep expert, Dr. Michael Breus (“bruce”). He looked at how men and women dealt with a lack of sleep……and he found big differences. Women had more depression, anger, and hostility when they didn’t get enough sleep.
