…hug your loved ones more often! Psychology professor Dr. Thomas Joiner from Florida State University says, in studies, people who do the most hugging are less likely to get sick when exposed to a flu virus. It works because regular physical contact with other humans bolsters the immune system – by challenging it through exposure to other people’s microbes, which makes it stronger. Another reason hugs are a flu fighter? They reduce stress, which makes us more resistant to infections. So get hugging!

If you don’t want to toss your cookies on an amusement park ride, follow these recommendations from amusement park expert Pete Trabucco, author of “America’s Top Roller Coasters.”

First: Open your eyes: Looking ahead helps your body adjust to dips, which creates a smoother ride. That’s why it’s better to be in the front of the ride than the back. You can see what’s coming.

Also, bend in the opposite direction: For example, if the ride pitches you to the left, try to bend your body to the right. This’ll help prevent motion sickness.

Germs. Dr. Donald Redelmeier is a clinical epidemiologist at the University of Toronto. And he says elevator buttons are 50% dirtier than public toilet flushers and bathroom door handles. So what can you do if you can’t find the stairs – or you’re in a hurry – or you’re on crutches? Use your elbow to press the buttons – or a pencil eraser.

While it’s true that the more people we’re around – the more infections we’re exposed to, that’s actually a good thing. It strengthens our immunity over time. And the British Medical Journal found that extroverts, who spent a lot of time with others, had heartier immune systems and were more resilient when they did get sick, than loners. Another upside of being social? Researchers think that spending time with other people stimulates certain genes that help the body fight off viruses.
