Should you keep it covered, or let it breathe? Ohio State University’s Wound Center says: Both. Keep it covered when you’re out and about, and your skin is exposed to pollution, germs, and debris. At home, uncover it and let it breathe – especially while you’re sleeping. Because that’s when the body uses oxygen to produce new skin cells and collagen, which seals the wound and helps it heal.

Or vacuumed? Because research shows a link between a dirty house and weight gain! Duke University researchers found that the chemicals released from furniture, rugs and pollution end up in the dust around our house. And breathing in chemical-laden dust makes fat cells swell and multiply! But when the dust goes away, the problem goes away. So regularly dust and vacuum, and invest in a HEPA air purifier for the room you spend the most time in. If you’re trying to lose weight, that may be the added ingredient that helps you start shedding pounds.

…even knowing our hands frequently carry hundreds of times MORE germs than a park bench or an escalator handrail! Which means, the germs already on our hands are more likely to make us sick than any germy thing we touch in a restaurant. So, before you pick up that hamburger, ask yourself, did I wash my hands? Because our hands are in constant contact with our mouth – or with things we put IN our mouth – making them the fastest route to illness.

Here’s what else it could mean….

If you have a small, tickling cough, the culprit may be your blood pressure medication. For about 1 in 5 patients, a little known side-effect to those drugs is a dry, nagging cough. So ask your doctor about switching to a different type of blood pressure medication. Otherwise, ask him about adding some iron to your diet. Research shows that taking a daily iron supplement can calm a drug-related cough in as little as one month.

Also, a persistent cough could be a sign of acid reflux. Experts say about 3 out of 4 people who experience heartburn after eating also develop a cough! The #1 way to ward off acid reflux is to eat lighter meals. Otherwise, try sitting upright for at least 2 hours after a meal. Then sleep on your left side. That way, acid passes more quickly from your stomach into your intestines.

Here’s a tip to lower your blood pressure!

For healthy blood pressure, should you go for low-fat yogurt, or cottage cheese? The answer is – low-fat yogurt. It has 3 times the amount of calcium, and getting 1,000 to 2,000 milligrams each day can help reduce blood pressure by up to 40-percent.

Here’s an email I received at Connie@IntelligenceForYourHealth.com. It comes from Rose Garcia. She writes:

Hi Connie: I’m a stress ball at work. I’ve tried deep breathing and meditation on my breaks – but it’s hard for me to calm down and sit still. What else can I try?

Rose, you might be better off burning off your stress with an afternoon walk – and picking up the pace. Researchers found that picking up the pace even slightly – say, walking 115 steps per minute instead of 75 – makes walking an even bigger stress-reliever……And helps the effects of exercise last at least 2 hours longer.

That’s because the faster we move, the more oxygen-rich blood reaches our nervous system……And the more feel-good endorphins get blasted through our body. What’s the difference between 75 beats per minute and 115? Going from “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus……To “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson.
