In fact, mosquitoes hate it. So mix a couple drops of lemongrass oil into your body lotion – and put some on before you head outside. It’ll repel mosquitoes for up to two and a half hours.

When participants in a recent study spent as little as ten minutes inhaling the fragrance of citrus fruit, they saw a significant increase in their overall mood – which included a DECREASE in their levels of tension, anxiety, depression, confusion, fatigue and anger.

So, peel an orange, get a whiff of a citrus essential oil, or mix up a batch of lemonade. And be sure to breathe deeply.

If you’re going to be outside in the early morning or evening – when mosquitoes are the most active – slather yourself with citrus! Because mosquitoes hate the scent – especially lemon grass. So mix a couple drops of lemon grass oil into your body lotion – and put it on before heading outside. It’ll repel mosquitoes for up to two hours.

Scratch-and-sniff the rind. The aroma of citrus fruits can change our brain chemistry by calming the sympathetic nervous system, which deactivates our stress response.

Sniff some citrus, like a lemon wedge. The Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation says it can calm a queasy stomach in a minute… Because the scent goes right to the brain’s nausea center and calms it down. You can also sip some hot water with lemon. Lemon juice contains a compound which triggers white blood cells to attack invading germs. So, if there’s bad bacteria in your gut, your white blood cells will tamp it down.

Here’s why you need more vitamin C…

If you’re feeling down in the dumps, eat more citrus fruit! According to the journal Biological Psychiatry, citrus is the perfect mood-booster – because it’s full of vitamin C……Which helps regulate the brain chemicals that affect our mood, including dopamine and adrenaline. And eating at least one piece of citrus fruit daily will lift your mood within days.

KUMQUATS.

They’re tiny citrus fruits – about the size of large olives – that resemble mini-oranges. And according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, research shows that people who ate kumquats just three times a day saw their blood pressure drop an average of four points.

But know this: The trick is to eat the fruits whole – skin and all. Because kumquat skins are packed with plant compounds proven to heal arteries, and improve blood flow.
