But if yours is out of control, try adding artichokes to your diet.

Researchers found that eating 3 small artichokes a week – or 4 whole artichoke hearts – cuts the risk of intestinal gas by 70%! That’s because artichokes are the only natural source of cynarin – an acid that speeds the breakdown of fats and carbs, so our body absorbs them faster. That means food doesn’t hang out in our digestive tract, fermenting and creating gas. Here’s another fact about cynarin. You can’t taste it, but it causes the next bite of whatever you eat to taste just a little sweeter than it otherwise would. It can even make water taste sweet.

A slightly under-ripe, green banana. They’re loaded with resistant starch, a type of carbohydrate that passes through the small intestine without being digested. That encourages the population of healthy gut bacteria, and makes us feel full for an extended period of time. It also makes us more efficient at burning fat.

It could be because of what you ate YESTERDAY. You know the feeling, you go to bed stuffed and wake up hungrier than ever. It’s NOT because your stomach has stretched out. Experts say it’s usually because we went on a starch spree the day before…And all that bread, potatoes, and pasta caused our blood sugar to go haywire. That tricks the brain into thinking we’re still not full. But meals full of vegetables, whole grains and lean protein won’t create the same effect.

Did you know that eating more protein can speed up your metabolism?

Here’s why: Your body uses more energy to process it than fat and carbohydrates. So, if you want to reap the benefits, try to eat at least 15 grams of protein at each of your meals. For example, you could have an 8-ounce cup of low-fat yogurt at breakfast, a half-cup serving of hummus at lunch, and a 3-ounce salmon fillet for dinner.

Which do you choose? Pumpkin pie or apple pie?

Save a few calories, and a few grams of fat, and go for pumpkin. Both pies have some redeeming qualities – vitamins, fiber and antioxidants in both the apples and the pumpkin. But the real reason pumpkin wins is because apple pie has that top layer of crust. Eating a slice of pumpkin pie is like eating an open-faced sandwich – you consume fewer carbs.

Instead of carb-loading before your workout, try this:

carb-loading

Eat foods with a low-glycemic index, like nuts, celery, and yogurt. They can actually improve your fat-burning ability. That’s because they decrease your blood-sugar levels, which forces your body to use its fat stores for energy.

One of the hardest things about losing weight is giving up all your favorite foods.

But you don’t have to. Just give up one! Just letting go of one of your favorite vice foods can make a huge difference.

Image

For example, letting go of candy & sweets could save you at least 300 calories a day. That’s because the simple carbs in candy digest quickly, leading to a spike-and-crash in your energy level which makes you eat more. I gave up sugar a couple years ago and I had some cravings in the beginning, especially after dinner, but now I no longer get that horrible crash-feeling an hour after I eat a chocolate soufflé. My family thinks I’m crazy, but I take a whiff of the after dinner dessert and that’s all I need.

These foods will help you live longer & healthier lives.

A study found that eating the following foods just twice a week can significantly lower our risk of disease.

Healthy food #1: Kelp. Research shows that dried seaweed contains higher levels of protein, potassium, and magnesium than most land vegetables. The key is to buy kelp raised domestically – like from the Gulf Of Maine…… Because kelp from China, for example, has a higher risk for mercury contamination.

The 2nd healthy food to add to your shopping list: Coconut. Recent studies found that people who consumed high quantities of coconut products had lower rates of heart disease than those who rarely ate coconut. And it doesn’t matter what part you use……Because coconut “flesh” is a good source of fats and carbs – and coconut oil is a proven immunity booster.

One more healthy food: “Pure” maple syrup. Many health experts say we should be consuming less white sugar……And for an alternative sweetener, you can’t go wrong with maple syrup. It contains more than 50 compounds proven to fight cancer and heart disease. And you only need a small amount of it to sweeten coffee, oatmeal, or baked goods.
