Experts say it should be every 3 months… Because when the bristles start to fray, they leave plaque behind, which can lead to infected, bleeding gums. And you’ll brush too hard to compensate for those frayed bristles… Which can easily lead to mega-sensitive gums and teeth, V‑shaped notches near your gum-line, and even tooth loss. So get a new toothbrush every season, and you’ll get to keep all your teeth.

That’s the number of NEW toothbrushes you should buy every year. One for each season. According to the USC School of Dentistry, after 3 months the bristles are too worn down to clean your teeth effectively and remove plaque. Plus, by that point, your toothbrush is crawling with germs. And if you’ve been sick, swap out your toothbrush if it’s in a holder where it could touch another family member’s toothbrush. Because you won’t re-infect yourself – but your germs could get transferred to someone else’s toothbrush.

You’ve probably been brushing your teeth on your own since you were about 4 years old. But most of us aren’t getting it right. Dentist Mark Wolff, from the NYU College of Dentistry, says we spend over 60% less time brushing the inner surfaces of our teeth as the outside surfaces. So start at the back of your mouth and pay special attention to the tongue-side of your lower molars.

Brushing doesn’t only keep your teeth clean…

You can stop your worries cold – simply by brushing your teeth!
Clinical psychologists say that brushing your teeth instantly stimulates most of your senses…… Including taste, smell, touch and hearing. In fact, the act is so distracting, it interrupts the worry cycle. Plus, the minty scent increases production of calming beta brainwaves.

Because 30 minutes of daily meditation has been shown to shorten migraines by a mega 3 hours! That’s according to Wake Forest School of Medicine. And the best part is, you don’t have to spend a solid 30 minutes Ohm-ing…You can spread it out.  One of the easiest ways is to incorporate meditation into things you’re already doing. For example, when you’re brushing your teeth – have a moment of mindfulness. Focus on the taste of the toothpaste, the sensation of brushing, the sound it makes. You can also have a mini-meditation while you’re eating – focus on the smell, taste and texture of your food. Do that 30 minutes a day, and you’ll really cut down on migraine pain.

According to microbiologist Dr. Phillip Tierno, if you leave your toothbrush sitting out on the bathroom counter, it could collect bacteria from toilet flushes, which can travel up to 20-feet in most bathrooms.

That’s why Dr. Tierno recommends regularly running your toothbrush through the dishwasher! According to the American Journal of Dentistry, this method destroys nearly all disease-causing bacteria. Another option? Soak your brush in a mouthwash that contains cetylpyridinium chloride. You’ll find that in products like Crest Pro-Health. Then let it dry completely.
