Like alcohol. According to registered dietician Keri Glassman, going dry for one month can result in a 3-pound weight loss.

Then, give up fried foods – like chips and fries – for a month, and you’ll drop up to 5 pounds. Plus, because fried foods are harder to digest, you’ll also lose bloat and heartburn.

Finally, if you only want to give up one thing to lose weight: Ditch your morning muffin. After a month you’ll be down 3 pounds. Give up cookies, too, and you’ll bring that total to 5 pounds lost.

Eat more beets! Whether they’re red or yellow, beets contain inulin, a type of fiber that boosts production of digestive enzymes. And French researchers found they help keep food from hanging out in your gut, producing gas and triggering discomfort. In fact, just a half-cup of beets can help relieve bloat and indigestion within 30-minutes, and cut your risk of heartburn in HALF.

Try eating some papaya. The fruit contains an enzyme which has been shown to reduce bloat, gas, gastrointestinal upset and constipation… Because it soothes the digestive tract and speeds up digestion by helping to break down protein.

Are you having an issue with a bloated belly and you need to get rid of it in a hurry? Quick, find a pool and jump in!

Experts say, simply bobbing in the pool for half an hour can help reduce bloat. That’s according to integrative physician Dr. Elson Haas. He says being in a body of water, like the pool, acts as a diuretic, increasing urine output for 2 hours afterward. That’s due to the water pressure exerted on your body, which pushes trapped fluids into circulation and out of your body.

…and I’m not talking water weight from the bloat. In an Australian study, when people ate a really salty pasta sauce, they consumed 11% more food than those who ate a less salty sauce. Dr. Russell Keast is a professor of exercise and nutrition science. And he says it’s because excessive salt overpowers feelings of satiety. So you eat more than you normally would – because you don’t realize you’re already full. And that’s another good reason to watch your sodium intake.

Going on a date – have an important meeting? Skip these foods that cause gas… and they’re not the usual suspects like broccoli and beans.

First, be careful with sugar-free gum. Not only are you taking in more air when you chomp gum, which can cause gas and burping. The ingredient in sugar-free gum – sorbitol – takes a relatively long time to digest, and undigested sorbitol in your small intestine acts as a hothouse, fermenting bacteria, which can cause flatulence.

Also, skip protein bars that contain soy. The processed “soy isolate” contains sugar molecules that the body can’t break down entirely. So they hang out in the gut, ferment, and cause gas and bloating.

One more gas-inducing food: Almond milk! Dairy doesn’t have the lock on stomach distress. Almond milk can contain a thickening agent called carrageenan. It’s made from seaweed, and it’s been linked to ulcers, inflammation, and other gastrointestinal problems.

Well, your dog wants one, too! And it can be really good for them.
Massaging can relieve anxiety and lower stress levels in anxious dogs. So, massage your dog’s head, neck and tips of the ears with light pressure, and a slow but consistent pace.
For digestive issues: Massage your dog’s back and belly. That’ll help your dog’s stomach muscles relax, and reduce gas and bloating.
And for older dogs, massaging their back legs can help reduce stiffness and improve flexibility.
Overall, vets say that massage stimulates circulation and lowers tension so effectively, that a lot of them use massage to calm dogs after surgery. And it’s easy to give your dog a calming massage at any time, whether they’re standing, sitting or lying down. Just use the “zigzag touch.” Simply spread your fingers wide, and make zigzags along your dog’s sides, between the hips and shoulders.

We’ve talked about how the scent of lavender is soothing and can help promote better sleep. But did you know you can EAT lavender, too… and it’s really good for you? Culinary lavender can help beat bloat and improve digestion. That’s because the polyphenols reduce bad gut bacteria. Dr. Christine Gerbstadt is a diabetes and nutrition expert, and she recommends sprinkling dried culinary lavender onto Greek yogurt, which also promotes good gut health.

That’s because apples are rich in butyrate – a compound that soothes the gastrointestinal inflammation that triggers gas and bloating. According to scientists, eating 3 apples a week will prevent indigestion and belly pain for 60% of us.
For the best results, stick with cooked apples, like applesauce or oven-baked apples. That’s because heat breaks down the simple sugars – AKA fructose – in apples… Which helps prevent the growth of gas-producing gut bacteria.
