You’ll feel more satisfied! Researchers from the University of Copenhagen found people who ate plant-based foods, like bean-and-pea “burger” patties, felt more satiated, compared to the carnivores. The reason? Because beans are rich in fiber, which makes you feel fuller, faster, and takes longer to digest than meat protein.

It turns out, the more fiber in your diet the better you’ll sleep. According to the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, people who munch more high fiber foods – like beans – spend more time in the deep, restorative stages of sleep. And in the study, people eating more fiber cut the time it took to fall asleep in half. And it only took one day for the changes to take effect. So why does fiber help us sleep better? Because it takes longer to digest, so the nutrients are released more slowly into the bloodstream. And that helps the body have an easier time winding down at night.

You know you should cut back on salt to manage your blood pressure, but you can’t help reaching for the salt shaker. So what can you do? Eat more foods loaded with potassium. According to research from USC, increasing the amount of potassium-rich foods you eat is just as effective when it comes to lowering your sodium intake. That’s because potassium helps flush excess sodium out of your system. So eat more high-potassium foods, like baked potatoes, artichokes, spinach, beans, coffee, and bananas.

Sunflower seeds. Research in Experimental Dermatology found people with acne typically have low levels of vitamin E and zinc – which heal the skin, and regulate oil production. And sunflower seeds have both nutrients. They also have loads of selenium – which helps reduce redness and inflammation. All you need is a handful a day to get enough vitamin E, and half your requirement of zinc. For the remaining zinc, try chicken, shellfish or beans.

Studies show that 56% of us have trouble sleeping between Thanksgiving and New Year’s…And it’s often because of adrenal exhaustion. That’s where high levels of the stress hormone cortisol overwhelm your adrenal gland, causing a drop in the production of the sleep hormone, melatonin.
How can you improve your adrenal function? Natural health expert Dr. Andrew Weil recommends a low-glycemic diet…That means, avoid white flour and sugar…And stick with whole grains…As well as protein-rich foods, like meat, poultry, dairy, soy products, beans and lentils.

There’s a link between acne severity and low levels of zinc – an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial mineral… And when we don’t have enough, the bacteria on our face causes pimples. So, eat more zinc-rich foods, like roasted nuts, beans, whole grains, beef, poultry and oysters. In fact, just two oysters provide your daily value of zinc.

Try magnesium supplements. A recent study found that magnesium helps our cells absorb glucose rapidly, so our blood sugar doesn’t go through the roof when we eat a big meal. So ask your doctor about taking a supplement – and add more magnesium-rich foods to your diet: Like beans, broccoli, almonds, and pumpkin seeds.

start taking magnesium during the day. It’s a mineral that’s responsible for more than 300 different chemical reactions in the body. It de-stresses you, so you can sleep better. Plus, it can relieve leg cramps, which can keep you up at night. So, try eating more magnesium-rich foods, like broccoli, kale, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and beans. Or take a bath with Epsom salts, which allows magnesium to soak into your skin. If you go the supplement route, look for chelated magnesium. That means the magnesium is bound to an amino acid. It’s like putting a letter in an envelope – it makes it easier to be delivered to your body to be absorbed.
