Here’s how to achieve that: Chase your cup of coffee with a cup of green or white tea. Unlike black tea, green and white teas are less processed – and go through less oxidation. As a result, they contain higher levels of the amino acid L-theanine. And according to Oxford University, L‑theanine increases alpha brain waves — which are linked with feeling relaxed yet alert.

So why drink coffee first? Because in a study, people who had a dose of caffeine AND L‑theanine felt less tired — and had increased attention and memory.

You can re-energize yourself in 60 seconds. Just run your hands under cool water for one minute. Because a sudden change in temperature increases blood flow in your extremities. It also stimulates the release of noradrenaline, a hormone that boosts alertness and energy. And the effect lasts up to 2 hours!

Going to bed at 11:30pm instead of 10 is no big deal, right? Not so fast! It turns out, missing even 90-minutes of sleep for just one night can reduce your daytime alertness by as much as 32%. That’s enough to affect your memory, your thinking ability, and your safety on the job and on the road.

Here’s one of those tips that sounds ridiculously simple – so, why not try it?
To get a boost of energy, tap the spot between your nose and upper lip, 10 times, using your index and middle fingers. It’s called the “revival point” – and the tapping enhances blood flow and oxygen to the brain, which increases energy and alertness. And they call it the “revival point” because it’s a first-aid technique for restoring consciousness to someone who’s fainted.

Put a little nutmeg in your coffee grounds before you brew your next pot. The phytonutrients in the spice energize chemicals in your brain. That increases alertness, energy, and feelings of happiness in as little as
10 minutes.

Lingering in bed a few extra minutes can help you start your day better! That groggy feeling when you first wake up is called sleep inertia, and researchers say it takes up to 10 minutes for that feeling to go away.

So how can you avoid feeling like a morning zombie? Simply relax in bed for those 10 minutes and wait it out! That way, you’ll get out of bed feeling more alert and ready to face the day!
