If you’re driving a long distance and you need to stay alert, say this: “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.” Or “How can a clam cram in a clean cream can?” A study in the journal Human Factors found that tongue twisters can keep us mentally alert. That’s because they take our brain off autopilot. They also improve driving ability, by making us more aware of what’s happening around us… even though our mind is on the tongue twister.
