ear-gauge-wp

You know those giant holes some people have in their ears? They’re called gauges – and basically, you buy bigger and bigger gauges to stretch out your earlobes over time. But now that people are growing tired of the trend, which became popular in the 90s – they’re finding that their earlobes are permanently disfigured. Once the hole is bigger than an M&M, the skin doesn’t just shrink back up. It’ll need to be fixed surgically, by reconstructing the whole earlobe. It’s called “flesh tunnel surgery.” A surgeon has to cut around the hole, taking out the core, then slice the earlobe into two pieces, trim away excess skin and sew the pieces back together. The surgery takes about half an hour per ear, and costs around 4,000 dollars.
