Eat more protein. According to a large study – which looked at a quarter of a million people – increasing the amount of protein you eat by 20 grams daily – the amount in one egg plus a half-cup of almonds – is all you need to reduce your risk. Just get your protein from a source that’s not RED meat – because that can increase your risk. The researchers say protein lowers blood pressure, which is why it helps prevent strokes.
