Go to your mental happy place. Scientists from Oxford University found that counting things – although mind-numbing and tedious – doesn’t help us fall asleep any faster. But picturing a beautiful, pristine beach – or a sunny meadow with a babbling bookwill do the trick. In a study, visualizing calming imagery helped people fall asleep 20 minutes sooner. So the next time you’re having trouble sleeping, picture your happy place.
