Here’s what to order, according to registered dietician, Cynthia Sass.

Ladies, to feel more attracted to your date, eat foods rich in zinc: Like beef, shellfish, spinach and chocolate. Zinc raises testosterone in women… which will make you more likely to find your date attractive.

And ladies, if you want your date to find YOU attractive, order anything with celery and asparagus. They encourage your body to release pheromones. Or order spinach to boost your estrogen. Because both chemicals will make you seem more attractive to your date.

Here’s something to think about next time you have a cup of coffee.

If you love coffee, know this: Wait 30 minutes after drinking it before brushing your teeth! That’s because the acid in the coffee weakens tooth enamel. And if you brush immediately afterward, you’ll damage your teeth even more. That’s according to the Mayo Clinic.

Doing things that tap into our artistic side can lengthen our life… And that includes writing, scrapbooking, doodling, and taking pictures. University of Rochester researchers say one of the things people who live the longest have in common is taking opportunities to be creative. Human development professor, Dr. Nicholas Turiano, says creativity uses a variety of neural pathways in the brain – which is why it keeps us sharp. On top of that, creative people are also better at handling stress, because they have an outlet for it. Being creative is a great way to sidestep our stressors and re-channel our energy.

Losing weight doesn’t have to be a struggle.

In fact, experts say that allowing yourself to enjoy a little of your favorite foods – even if they’re fattening – can actually help you lose weight! According to a study in the journal Appetite – it’s all about perception. In other words, the way we feel when we indulge has a major impact on our ability to stick with our diet.

The researchers found that people who thought of the occasional treat as a “celebration” – and enjoyed it without beating themselves up – were more likely to stick to a healthy eating plan. While people who felt guilty afterward saw their indulgence as a sign of failure and loss of control… Making them much more likely to throw in the towel, and resume their old, unhealthy eating habits.

At the gym, let go of the handrails on the treadmill!

Because when we grab onto the handrails, we have a tendency to lean back. And people who do that burn significantly fewer calories. That’s because, when we walk up a real hill, we lean forward – which works our calf muscles, glutes and hamstrings. It also increases our calorie burn. If you grab on for dear life and lean back, you don’t get any of that. So, if you can’t let go, you either need to slow down or decrease the incline.

Here’s how to get a better night’s sleep.

The secret to a good night’s sleep may be painting your bedroom walls blue!
According to a study, people whose bedrooms are painted light blue get the most sleep – an average of 7 hours and 52 minutes a night. And here’s why those blue walls do the trick… It’s because we have special receptors in our eyes that control our sleep / wake cycle – and they’re most sensitive to the color blue. The worst color to paint your bedroom? It’s red – which stimulates our adrenaline. People in red bedrooms only managed to get less than 6 hours of sleep a night.

If something ticks you off – SAY so.

People who express their anger, instead of keeping it bottled up, live two years longer. According to the journal Health Psychology, keeping your feelings inside increases your chances of high blood pressure – and even cancer! But releasing your feelings reduces that risk.

If you have to get your blood pressure taken, chill out for 5 minutes beforehand.

Relaxing for 5 minutes before your blood pressure is taken guarantees you won’t have an artificially high reading. Because if your reading is too high, you may be prescribed unnecessary medication. For example, rushing into your doctor’s office after a traffic-jammed drive can raise your systolic pressure by as many as 20 points!

So sit quietly, flip through a book, check Facebook and calm down in the waiting room. It’s also a good idea to skip that Dunkin’ Donuts run on the way to the doctor. Caffeine can cause a temporary blood pressure spike – and give you a false reading.

Be sure to wash your hands.

Did you know that 80% of infections are passed on by touch? So hand-washing is the #1 way to prevent infection. In fact, frequent hand-washing makes you 24% less likely to catch a respiratory illness, and half as likely to get a stomach bug.

Sometimes combining certain foods can improve their health benefits.

avotomato-wpLike: Avocado and Tomato. Tomatoes are loaded with the antioxidant lycopene. But when you combine tomatoes with avocado, the unsaturated fat in the avocado helps the body absorb SEVEN TIMES the normal amount of lycopene! And lycopene inhibits the production of cancer cells.

Another good combo: Grilled steak and Brussels sprouts. There are compounds in Brussels sprouts which help the body flush out carcinogens. Including the carcinogens which form on charred meat during grilling.

Finally: Here’s a BAD food combo… Alcohol and energy drinks. Caffeine is a stimulant, while alcohol is a depressant. And when you overload your body with both at the same time, it puts tremendous stress on your heart… So don’t even think about ordering a Red Bull and Vodka.
